British pet cats faced extermination

UK officials considered asking citizens to exterminate their pet cats near the start of the coronavirus pandemic as a novel way to ‘flatten the curve,’ a former minister has said, noting that the government was not sure whether felines were playing a role in the health crisis.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, ex-Deputy Health Minister Lord James Bethell described the initial response to Covid-19 by government agencies, saying “we shouldn’t forget… how little we understood about this disease.”

“There was a moment we were very unclear about whether domestic pets could transmit the disease,”
he said. “In fact, there was an idea at one moment that we might have to ask the public to exterminate all the cats in Britain. Can you imagine what would have happened if we had wanted to do that?”

I wonder how badly the public would react if the UK told them to kill all their pets.

They are likely deliberately confusing Wuhan CDC and Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), as the lab leak theory falls apart completely otherwise.

Wuhan actually consists of three component cities, Wuchang, Hanyang, and Hankou, which are separated by the Yangtze and Han rivers. Together, the three component cities of Wuhan covers an area more than 10 times that of New York city.

, which conducts research on coronaviruses, is located in Jiangxia district at the very southern end of Wuchang, which is itself the southern most component city of Wuhan located south of the Yangtze river. The market where COVID broke out, is in Hankou, the northern most component city of Wuhan north of the Han river. The Wuhan CDC lab, which does not conduct coronavirus research, is also located in Hankou.

It would be highly improbable for a virus leak at the WIV lab to move across all of Wuchang's large and heavily populated districts without spreading, jump over the Yangtze river, move across Hanyang without spreading, then jump over the Han river, and finally penetrate deep into Hankou before it finally starts to infect people.

The lab leak theory only works if there is a lab researching coronaviruses near the initial outbreak. The WIV works with coronaviruses but is too far away. The Wuhan CDC is close but doesn't work with coronaviruses. Thus, they must deliberately confuse the two to make their theory make sense.
Theory does not match the time frame to begin with because how did a virus from WIV manage to create thousands+ of cases of people who have post-infection antibodies in faraway America and Italy before it even created cases in China.

Does nothing to explain spells of pneumonia in central America throughout the entire summer which coincidentally never ever happened again after covid started, nor how Italy was the first European country to have known cases despite completely shutting down travel to China.

Because some countries refuse to further contract trace, research into origins are impossible. But if it leaked from a lab, then it must be a lab from countries that have more cases of covid than China despite having no travel with China.

Man 3/4 of the comments on that video were about China and "covid". India's hate for China is so strong.

Cannot do anything about it.

The Indian image of themselves, is that they are independent but aligned with the West, therefore they associate themselves with what they perceive as the winning side.

From that philosophical starting point, of their place in the world and in history, they fully believe they are ahead of China, a poor backward country. Any hints of China mega cities and wealth, all very minor details, as China is poor and extremely backwards in their minds.

When China demonstrates something better than the Americans, it hits the Indians like a double whammy.

Any Chinese advances in science or technology, or China improves its geopolitical position, not only it is a move that benefits China who is a rival, it also strikes directly and negatively against India's worldview and self-image.

They need to vent.

Cannot do anything about it.

Often we find that commentators in the West and many Indian commentators say that China is weak in basic science and basic research.

Whether that is true is not the point. We know they will not research that. What they really want to say, it is a backhanded attempt to say China is not as good as the West and never will be, according to their worldview.

Again, cannot do anything about it.

My view is that their ideology is their problem.

No more, no less.

This is the most plain welcoming of a foreign minister that I have seen, and that's coming from a powerful country that's China.

Is India being petty or am I overthinking things.

India has always been petty and arrogant. Despite this and the previous humiliating welcome of FM Wang Yi, I can bet you the next time that pompous clown Jaishankar visits China, he will be treated with utmost respect. Insecure, jealous & arrogant third world craphole vs a strong, confident and dignified superpower, quite a strong contrast.

In fact every major Chinese city has something like a dozen CDC buildings. These are not really laboratories but more like medical centres.

Here, for instance, are the CDC buildings in Nanjing.

Wuhan also has about a dozen.

With this systemic network, it's almost impossible for a new disease to occur in a major city without being near a CDC building.

Which, of course, is the purpose of those buildings.

After all, the goal of the CDC is to deter new disease outbreaks. China therefore deliberately puts CDC buildings in a network in major cities, so that new disease outbreaks are detected and suppressed. The fact that there's a CDC building near a new disease outbreak is not a nefarious conspiracy. It's proof that the Center for Disease Control and Prevention is doing what it's supposed to do - detecting, controlling, and preventing new diseases.
