So why F-22? Is it purely due to service ceiling?

If shoe was on the other foot which aircraft in PLAAF would be best suited for taking out high altitude balloon? J-8II?
Purely service ceiling wise J20 would be the choice. But I feel like some type of UAV would be best suited for the job, but I'm not sure china has any UAV with weapons that could top out at that kind of altitude.

From the US media coverage of da balloon, Americans are losing interest in the Ukraine war. From semiconductor, Taiwan, now balloon, US admin is trying hard to get Xi's attention. US is not going to let China "win by lying flat" (躺赢). So the best strategy for China is to lie flat and do nothing. BTW, as it turns out, the 180 degree Covid policy shift was a genius move.

Well, that's just the "free" press doing it's thing and Bloomberg is a particularly "free" spirit. I would like to hold the Pentagon is slightly higher regard - at least as a comforting fiction since they have a large nuclear arsenal and I'd like to believe they're still somewhat tethered to reality - but if they're so incompetent that they can't tell it's a weather balloon or so mendacious that they would fabricate a lie to deliberately escalate tensions, then I'll have to put them in the same bin as the "free" press and discount everything they say to zero.
