The borders of modern Ukraine are “unnatural,” and Kiev should cede parts of its territory to the neighboring states that these lands rightfully belong to, Romania’s ex-foreign minister, Andrei Marga, believes. The former diplomat made the explosive remark on Saturday as he presented his new book ‘The Fate of Democracy’ at the Alba Transylvania book fair.

The crisis around Ukraine must be solved through negotiations involving the major international players, including Russia, China, the US, and EU, Marga stated. The leading powers should come together and agree on a new “security structure” in Europe and worldwide, he suggested.

“If an agreement is not reached, there will be no peace in Europe. Without peace, democracy will suffer,” he said.

Ukraine, for its part, should cede certain territories to neighboring countries, the ex-minister suggested, calling the country’s existing borders “unnatural.” Marga listed the regions that were incorporated into then-Soviet Ukraine by the Communists, but which he thinks should be relinquished.

"We are in a very special situation here, and I take this with all responsibility, Ukraine exists in unnatural borders. It should cede Transcarpathia to Hungary, Galicia to Poland, Bukovina to Romania, Donbass and Crimea to Russia. These are the territories of other countries."

The Romanian Foreign Ministry condemned the words of its former leader about the "unnatural borders" of Ukraine and the need to "cede" its territories to neighboring countries.

But Andrei Marga continues to insist: "My statements correspond to historical truth, international law and common interests, except for today's propaganda, which the day after tomorrow will be considered nothing more than a mistake."

Comrade Scholz and Little Napoleon are planning to visit China in a few weeks
If they're smart, they'll use this rare opportunity to offer a serious backroom deal indirectly to Russia, asking China to pitch it to Russia and shepherd the deal to fulfillment. And of course, they should offer some major sweeteners to China (such as smuggling of ASML EUV to China and service/support via a China-based ASML-retiree operated/managed shell company) so that China has a big stake in its completion.

If they're stupid, they'll offer China nothing/near nothing/threats and demand/beg that China pulls support from/threatens Russia.

I'll take the latter for $1 billion. EU is led by rigid, feel good ideologues. If they're asked what to prioritize Food security or Alphabet rights and new genders they'll pick the latter.

If they're stupid...

That's what they are - stupid vassals of Uncle Sam. Useful idiots! Maybe only Hungarian PM Orban is an exception.

Hungarian PM warns Ukraine could lose half of its territory

The conflict between Moscow and Kiev could last for years and the West is to blame for making it global rather than local in nature, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said.

According to the report, Orban again lashed out at EU sanctions imposed on Russia over its military operation in Ukraine, saying the bloc had shot itself in the foot with those curbs.

The energy crisis, which occurred as a result of those restrictions, could force 40% of European industry to shut down this winter, he reportedly added.

In his speech, the Hungarian leader also allegedly revealed that European leaders are expected to decide on prolonging the sanctions for another six months later in autumn, insisting that an attempt should be made to prevent that extension.

The way things are going now, the eurozone and the EU itself could cease to exist by 2030, Orban was quoted as saying.

The fighting between Moscow and Kiev – which is being helped by the US, EU and some other countries – could continue until 2030, Orban reportedly warned. The crisis in Ukraine started as a local conflict but the involvement of the West has turned it into a global affair, the Orban said.

I don't expect much of value to be discussed, Ukraine topic will probably be completely avoided except for EU indirectly asking for industrial and energy aid. Which will probably be denied.

EU isn't smart enough to create a backroom deal. And they don't have enough leverage. The only major thing they can offer is to leave US bloc, but unless US itself collapses, they won't be able to, Washington's grip on them is like USSR's grip on the SSRs.

Beijing itself likely cares little about the chips war. For them it's just a way to let private companies improve in competitiveness, since the govt already has access to everything they need. If they're suddenly desperate they can just nationalize TSMC.

I think best case scenario, China can help Ukraine retain sea access and return of Kherson and Zaporozhiya oblasts, if EU promises that should US invade China, EU will refuse to aid America.

Otherwise, Russia will not stop until Ukraine is at least landlocked and honestly tactical Ukraine successes due to numerical advantage matters little. Because Russia has not even committed most of its forces, let alone conscripted troops, and according to the same doctrine China applied with the Korean war, China will never let Ukraine "win" (as in enter Crimea or even just the LDPR). There's several levels of escalation both Russia itself and China can take, example: Russia openly declaring war, China shipping weapons through Iran, China directly shipping weapons to Russia, Russia instituting draft, and so on. While NATO has escalated as far as possible besides directly attacking Russia.

Forget about anything else. EU can't be trusted until they grow a backbone and sign CAI otherwise its all hot air

Comrade Scholz and Little Napoleon can boast all they want but if they can't even manage to have CAI signed it means they aren't even qualified to ask China for any "favour" or help

No. China helps them practically while EU in return "promises" to totally help China sometime in the future...

Its like the Euro and Dollar IOUs that Russia was holding for so long and then they got deleted overnight

As somebody said before, the only thing EU could offer at this point is technology transfer and fixed minimum market share for Chinese products. And China shouldn't settle for anything less. Forget about CAI. EU had the chance and they blew it. I hope to see a China-EU Technology Agreement along the lines of US-Japan Semiconductor Agreement.

Well, the question is ... after what the EU have done to China ... whether China wants CAI be signed ? ;)

CAI is huge benefit to the EU, significantly more than what China would get
