People only show their true face in hardship, 患难见真情
There are many communist party members doing the same thing. One recent example is a retired professor (a woman whose name I forgot) in the central party school who waved the party constitution in defense of her position that party members have the right to defy party decisions. Global times published an article reminding her that although the party constitution do grant members to express different opinions during discussion process, the constitution also obliged members to strictly follow party lines when decision has been made. The irony is that she was reported by layman (non-party member) to the party disciplinary agency after reading her posts . Basically these people use their label such as party member, professor, Chinese citizen or ethnic, state broadcaster etc. to make their counter actions look authentic, genuine and legitimate. The most infamous figures of them are Michael Gorbachev and Boris Yeltsin, the least known is a colleague of my cousin kowtowing in Buddhist temple wearing full military uniform.
