For all the Chinese football fans on the forum: why does the Chinese women's team perform significantly better relative to their peers?

Unless Chinese men and women exhibit extreme sexual dimorphism, it makes no sense.
Let's not pretend the level of competition is even remotely the same.

Some countries don't have enough funding for a second team. Other countries don't really let their women get enough exposure to football due to cultural reasons.

That said the women definitely try harder. I remember in one of the Asian cups where they played both Japan and Korea in semis to finals, they were losing in the first half. But they somehow found a way to counter hard. Men's team just seems to quit when things get too tough.

It seems that Beijing's approval process for general aviation operations is about to be tightened further, even though it is already extremely strict.

by the way, drones are effectively banned from flying throughout the city. All outdoor drone flights require prior approval and authorization from relevant departments, and they cannot even be freely brought into Beijing. Clearly a reaction to hacking drones and Operation Spiderweb.
The drones are more dangerous than guns. It is pretty crazy these are still sold to civilians and not more regulated. If the Trump assassin used a drone it would have worked.

I always found China's obsession with basketball first rather dumb especially when its mainly just based off Yao Ming.

It's a game where you need to be 6'5 on average to even experience it properly. So naturally it's mainly Balkans and east Europe outside the US. Not only you need to be tall, you need a strong frame too since there's a lot strength and explosiveness jumping with force required. So already the vast majority of people are excluded.

At least with football you don't need to be so tall. Wu Lei who's probably China only international tier player was originally rejected for not being big enough. That's how we know Chinese football don't know what the hell they are doing.

But I believe football will eventually replace basketball in China. Just hope China learns to get it right one day.
Basketball infrastructure is preexisting in many places, parks, schools etc. Built in player base as well as being easier to set up with less players and less space. Entire games can be played quickly, often within the timeframe of a lunch break. With 1.4 Billion people you should be able to find enough tall people to have the talent for said sport. Overall the emphasis should be to develop a competent system.

I think its easier to advance basketball over soccer in the current environment. Once done, you move on to soccer using lessons learned.

But look at the relative positions on the bellcurve though.

Women's team is comfortably in the top 10% of n=198. Meanwhile, men's team sits at the top 40-50% of n=211.

Chinese women have more "empowerment" than most countries and thus have the cultural support and state support to develop womens sport.

Most other countries, even the west, do not have the same level of women's empowerment when it comes to sports, especially popular men's sport like football. Its culturally frowned upon for women to play in men's sport like football.

Thus the level of competition between men and women football is night and day.

Then, theoretically speaking, there exists some amount of funding N such that the men's team can also reach the top 10%. I dunno what that N is, but it exists and is finite.

While funding is always welcome, I believe there is a root cause at the systems core. Until this root cause is solved, it's not an efficient way of solving the issue.

A lot of things in life don't need trillions of dollars to solve. Just the ability to identity what's the actual cause of the problem.

And yet US brands operate freely in China. This is the level of timidity China has shown again and again. They should ban all US branded cars from Chinese market.
So what do you call it when China forces all Western brands to couple with and share IP with a Chinese company to enter China while they have no reciprocal rules for us? What do you call it when Google, Facebook, Yahoo have all been banned in China while Chinese social media operates in the West? Western timidity?

Less people care about female football so there's less corruption, allowing us to do better. When nobody in China cares about soccer, the men's team can be built from merit out of the ground and it will be something else but I just don't understand the Chinese mentality of loving a sport we suck at so so much. You'd have to pay me to watch soccer.

There is one simple way to find out. Pit women's team vs men's team. If men cannot win through serious biological advantage, then we can know for sure it is the internal problem not the external competition. Personally I would be on women's team beating men.

I really want the soccer team to succeed. Not because I like soccer or anything, I want to see the country has ability to solve a deeply corrupted system if they put their mind into it. It is like that other poster have said, a pointless activity like hobby aviation can train important skills. Solving pointless soccer corruption is like a research project of defeating rampant corruption. A skill that is definitely transferable.

Indeed, what matters is the system.

College football in the US is highly integrated to the school system. Its stadiums uses existing school facility management and maintenance, it has a built in audience in form of students who receive discount to games. They also receive heavy state subsidies as a part of a locally owned and operated center of economic activity.

School sports is competitive, with country and state championships. Success brings scholarships and admission to elite universities. Those who dont make it can carry on supporting the system becoming coaches, trainers, scouters and sport medicine doctors etc.

A proper system can is necessary, especially in team sports.
