I've always wondered why British empire, Roman empire, and American empire have such low endurance, and you can see why with American and their export controls against China. The moment they sense they are weak, they go apeshit, which backfires, a vicious cycle of decline. Rather than competing, they resort to protectionism, banning, or outright annexing/stealing resources. Like you said, they got lucky as virtually unscathed in WW2 and pissed away their advantage within a generation of end of Cold War....a sight to behold. The lottery winner who blows their fortune is really a good analogy.
