One has to wonder to what extent the current US administration is complicit in this. Could China radically redefining the nature of various ties in Asia be one of the implicit or explicit concessions the US had made as part of the rare earths surrender? It looks like South Korea is being pulled in close and will gain benefits while Japan is being made an example of. Likewise the US looks to be strengthening ties with South Korea via the naval shipbuilding arrangement while Japan is being left hung out to dry.

A positive example and negative example for the rest of Asia to observe and learn from, if they're paying attention. Philippines is too stupid and irrelevant but I wonder if they will adjust their posture.

If I think back to it, Trump has a historical hatred for Japan but a more neutral perspective on South Korea. Likewise South Korea has higher value to the US now by virtue of Samsung, SK Hynix, direct US control of their forces, and the naval shipbuilding arrangement. In contrast, Japan is all strung out and has nothing to offer but basing, prostitutes, and tourism. It would make sense to me that if the US was going to offer a sacrificial lamb as part of the rare earths surrender, it would be Japan.

According to former Maryland governor, Larry Hogan, who’s married to South Korean woman, he said Trump said to his face how much he disliked South Koreans. The guy just doesn’t like Asians.

As is suspected. it will require Japanese companies like Mitsubishi to sign end user agreements to buy these items, different from GPUs these are not consumer goods, these are industrial goods, so the only way to acquired them in bulk is directly to the manufacturer.

I don't know if Trump is complicit. Not only has he not backup the Japs, he manages to make another big news with his Greenland gambit and make the eurocucks run arround panicking like headless chicken too busy to notice Japan getting skewered

Well it says something when he’s been blaming China for this and that but he likes Xi Jinping. He likes the guy that normally you would blame for being behind a country’s policies. A Republican will hide their racism behind saying they hate the government but love the people. But here Trump just tells you he hates all Chinese in general.

It tells me that his true currency is power and his true language is fear (fearing others and instilling fear in others of him). He just uses his power to "buy" wealth for his family.
