Nah, apology is no use now. She gave China a nice excuse to do this, this move is absolutely huge and the intention is to de-militarize/de-industrialize Japan, you don't fire a bazooka like this and take it back once they say sorry.
When the Chinese say "no white sugar" for you evil Japan-the Chinese are dead serious and Japan is in real trouble as we slowly garrote nippon

My money is on a mistakenly prepared dish of Fugu sashimi-"Oh ,so sorry Madame PM -he is junior chef"

All joking aside, as I said before, a decision of this magnitude and consequence has its own inertia and isn’t something that can be walked back even if China wanted to. Not that China wants to.

I think it won’t be enough even if Takaichi committed Seppuku live on air while reciting her apology in mandarin at this point.

An inflection point of historic significance has quietly been passed here, and there is no take backsies in the hard nosed world of hard power realpolitiks.

Ironically enough, the best thing Japan could do right now is apologise repeatedly, profusely and unreservedly to China. Those, at the end of the day, are just cheap words that costs nothing to say but which will make things a lot more difficult for China to continue to justify the colossal economy beat down it’s about to unleash on the Japanese economy and people. But predictably, Japanese nature means they will double down and talk tough even as China economically dismembers them, which suits China perfectly as it can say with a straight face that it’s the Japanese who are forcing China to do all this.

This is a real amazing contrast between America and China. America is busy putting on shows of power to prove how powerful they are by bullying hopelessly outmatched neighbours and threatening other minnow powers. China quietly brought out a chainsword and is going about systematically obliterating a core support pilar of American hard power and one of its most loyal, unwavering and capable lieutenants and neither America or its lieutenant seem to even realise what is happening. Truly a spectacularly effective contrast and case study.

There's no explosions, Marvel quips or fancy photo shots involved to go viral. So most people can't be assed to care about China's actions even if its causing huge damage coz its not exciting enough.

The fact almost no one pays attention (except those Atlantic Council, Council On Foreign Relations, etc. types) even when China is pulling out a nation-killing move is almost like a stealthy superpower. Even that Atlantic Council clip has no comments, 3 reposts, and 2 likes, showing how few people really give a shit or are even paying attention to China's current move. Everyone is focused on Trump's splashy moves and tweets while China is choking Japan out in the back alley.
