What Trump actually said over the call to Takaichi:

"The United States relationship with China is very good, and that’s also very good for Japan, who is our dear and close ally. Getting along with China is a great thing for China and the U.S. In my opinion, President Xi will be substantially upping his purchase of soybean and other farm products, and anything good for our farmers is good for me.”

“We signed wonderful trade deals with Japan, China, South Korea, and many other nations, and the world is at peace,” Trump added. “Let’s keep it that way!”
Daddy will be very upset if you ruin his soybean deal.

Japan should have paid a bit more attention over the last 8 month when China was giving their daddy a beating.
I actually don't think that the Japanese were well versed in the details of their own surrender document-they became really afraid when China sent UNSecGen Guiterrez, the letter stating that according to the Surrender Document,China has the full legal right to attack/occupy Japan and the deafening silence of any would-be-Japan supporters willing to fight China and die in defense of Jap interests really jolted the Japanese along with the fact that the most recent Xi-Trump phonecall indicates no support for Tokyo."Restrain and muzzle your dog Washington or the next time it tries to bite me.. I'll kill it"-in essence what Xi said to Trump.

Why do these people always talk about war?
Professionals talk about logistics, amateurs talk about tactics. Anyone who ignores China's industrial prowess is unqualified to talk about strategy against China.

It seems neither the Japanese regime nor the Taiwanese regime will have much luck with the Trump regime.

So what can the West do? Start Opium War 3? BTW, China's trade balance is not nearly as skewed as the article implies if China's import of services is properly counted.

Its really wild to see the fire spread to many buildings. Does those high rise building have like fire sensors/alarms? Sprinklers/water hose? Also firefighter equipments in the area?
Old buildings in Hong Kong don't have smoke detected alarms, you have to smash the glass to trigger them and I think a lot of the residents either didn't know or were in too much of a panic to do so.

Yeah that's the sad part about South East Asia. Most of these nations didn't exist in WW2, hence they tend to selectively remember the postwar history. Because this was the era where these nations started to gain agency.

The Cold War was also the era where Japan was the leading economy in Asia. So, it was kinda cool to follow the example of Japan. Combine this with the lack of awareness for WW2 history, then its relatively easy to convince people in SEA to worship Japan.
Up until fairly recently too, Japan outranked China in terms of FDI into SEA. This is all in addition to its pop culture exports and their reputation for politeness. The latter no matter how fake it is to people who actually know Japanese society, one can't deny Japan does a good job of keeping up appearances.

This is in contrast to South Korea where their pop culture exports are popular of course, but Koreans themselves treat Southeast Asians so arrogantly it breeds resentment in the region towards them.
