I was talking about Singapore not having a strong identity before. But I realize being American also doesn't have a strong identity. Anyone who becomes a citizen of America is American. So what does it even mean to be American? Only 56% of Americans are white and white is extremely vague. Russians and Spanish are grouped together as white despite being genetically different significantly. At least Singapore can say its Chinese since objectively speaking most people there are in fact Chinese genetically and probably culturally. Hell at one point you can just call them Fujian people.

“We were informed by China that they will enable the resumption of supplies from Chinese factories from Nexperia,” Schoof said in an interview Friday on the sidelines of a climate summit in Belem, Brazil.

A resumption could set the stage for the Netherlands to relinquish control over Dutch-based Nexperia, which is owned by China’s

China retaliated by imposing export restrictions over components from Nexperia’s Chinese facility, which accounted for about half of its pre-crisis volumes.

I am continually impressed by just how level-headed and patient China is. The reality is, they could've really hurt European industry for a few weeks/months just to make a point, but they chose the high road yet again.

What will happen to Nexperia's Dutch assets remains to be seen, I suspect China actually wants to see what the Dutch will do now that they've been given a bit of reprieve. What Netherlands will do next will probably determine whether China goes punitive or not.
This would be an awful move if true. Why take back the worthless HQ that can't deliver the goods?

Demand access to EUV lithography tech, complete with tech transfers. They won't accept because that's basically signing the death warrant of ASML. The real goal is to drive a wedge between Dutch-American relations and damage EU unity.

When China surpasses the US, the world will be finding out how much the West has been holding everyone back. There's this automatic belief the West is for openness. That was the lie to take control. Remember they banned chemistry because they thought it was witchcraft. Look at how they banned stem call research just because of the belief little babies were sacrificed for their stem cells. Look at how Europe is always trying to place regulations on emerging sciences and technologies. Why is China exploding with new innovations? It's because China isn't doing what the West says. It's not about stopping abuse. It's about so they can control it. When they say China is working against the Western world order, it's all about China not following what they do meaning giving them authority on what the Chinese can or cannot do. They use to and some still do believe Chinese are genetically inferior to them. And China is disproving them with alarm. That's what they were brainwashing to the world so no one bothers to try to challenge them. China is showing the world they were wrong.

an american is a strict observer of american culture, which is a religion full of curious rituals like 'voting', 'black friday', 'superb owl', and contests to see who can make the most convincingly sympathetic noises.

You've convinced me completely that Singapore is a complete perversion that needs a dozen nukes dropped on it.
only if you do the same for all of the other tropical islands lol. look up the concept of

. Modern Standard Malay in Malaysia consists of a large portion of English words with some Sanskrit from India, reordered in Malay grammar; despite that many urban Malaysian speak "Bahasa Rojak", an even more mixed language. The descendants of Zheng He's fleet in Malaysia and Singapore speak Baba Malay, which is Malay words reordered into Minnan grammar. The descendants of the Portuguese explorers in the same area speak Kristang, which is Portuguese spoken with Malay word order. Haitian creole uses almost all Dahomey grammar despite using mostly French words. English itself is simplified Low German grammar combined with a shitload of French and Latin vocabulary.

This thread has many people who think that you can divide the world into different "civilizations" each with its pure "civilizational culture and language," and that not following one "civilization" necessarily means worshipping another. But there is no such thing as linguistic purism in isolated trade posts, and people in these places are just as attached to their so-called "corrupted" language and culture as much Shakespeare thought English was great. If we are going to continue the culture war with the $1.6b in the NED and USAID, we will have to fight it in local format, or not at all. If you can't deal with it then you just won't get any influence in these regions.

The idea that China wants ASML's EUV tech is the same as people who thought China wants Nvidia chips, first H20 then Blackwell.
China invested massive amount in domestic EUV lithography, even if the west offers EUV machines China will probably ban them just like they did Nvidia.
China doesn't want to own ASML, China wants to kill ASML.

I don't think China cares about EU-US relationships or EU unity, it would be useful if they weren't, but it's pretty obvious China's strategy does not require EU cooperation.

This further confirms that any attempt by Beijing to improve ties with EU is futile at best, stupid at worst. Chinese economists and diplomats (MOFCOM and MOFA) should also reflect on how they become so dependent on US and EU markets that such dependence has been exploited as a leverage in trade war aimed at weakening China geopolitically. Big Nancy crossed China's red line in 2022. Now the EU Parliament just did something somewhat similar. And the trade war continues. Any wet dreams by Chinese policymakers to split the EU from the US appears to be nothing but worst cases of adult naivety. Beijing also appears to not understand whilst President Orange despises the EU, the EU would always align with the US against China regardless of how heavy the economic cost.
