It is a bad idea to forbid the import of what basically is a work tool and a force multiplier.
Its a dangerous wager to use something and trust that no dependence develops. It seems at this point, China's best bet is full steam ahead full momentum to self-sufficiency. If there are any holes that need to be patched that I'm not aware of, a strategy to import just what's needed without adversely affecting internal drive or increasing dependency must be worked out before the go ahead.

Either way, it seems rare earth-choking will do much more damage to the West than any benefit they can offer China to alleviate it. The West believes in a zero sum game and so do I.
Brazil once put steep tariffs on computer imports to protect its computer industry. See how well that turned out for them.
Brazil has a computer industry? It's gonna depend on who you are. Obviously Zimbabwe can't use the same strategy as China to counter a tech embargo.

I don’t believe China is interested chip export concessions. At least in the short to medium time frame. Why would you want the US and US aligned states to dump chips, tools, and semi equipment onto the Chinese market.

Especially when the entire domestic industry is entering into their ramp up and mass production phase. Is your goal for a domestic industry or to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory to give the appearance of winning.

So you can have Bessent on TV again mocking about how they got the Chinese hooked on US tech and now they can dictate the terms of the unconditional surrender of China.

China looks about ready to ramp up mature semiconductor production with DUV lithography machines.

But my guess is that EUV lithography machines (for the latest semiconductors) need a few more years.

Citing Biblical story, Taiwan president says Israel is a model for island's defence

TAIPEI, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Israel is a model for Taiwan to learn from in strengthening its defences, President Lai Ching-te said in remarks released on Tuesday, citing the Biblical story of David versus Goliath on the need to stand up to authoritarianism.
Taiwan has been a strong backer of Israel since the 2023 Hamas-led attack on that country which triggered the war in Gaza, though Israel, like most countries, has no formal diplomatic relations with Taipei.

conservative U.S. media in an effort to win support from the White House, said that Jewish people have suffered constant persecution over their history.
"The Taiwanese people often look to the example of the Jewish people when facing challenges to our international standing and threats to our sovereignty from China. The people of Taiwan have never become discouraged," he said, in comments his office released on Tuesday.

'VALUABLE MODEL FOR TAIWAN'

Appeasement has never been the way to stop authoritarian governments, and the concept of peace through strength is a maxim that Israeli, U.S. and Taiwanese societies have had for years, Lai added.

"Israel's determination and capacity to defend its territory provides a valuable model for Taiwan. I have always believed that Taiwan needs to channel the spirit of David against Goliath in standing up to authoritarian coercion."
Taiwan has a de facto embassy in Tel Aviv, while Israel has a similar representative office in Taipei. There is no similar arrangement between Taiwan and the Palestinians, with whom China has a close relationship. China recognised a Palestinian state in 1988.
Lai earlier this month announced a new multi-layered air defence system called "

Lai told the dinner that T-Dome had been inspired by Israel's Iron Dome missile defence system, as well as U.S. President Donald Trump's "Golden Dome" missile defence shield.

"I believe that trilateral Taiwan-U.S.-Israel cooperation can help achieve regional peace, stability, and prosperity," he said.

FFS. I really don't get how Jews and Israel are that powerful. There aren't that many of them. Now they are basically taunting us saying yes we are that powerful and you can't do a thing about it!

The thing with the Anglo Zionists is that they don’t just want your tribute and money, as a mercantilist race, they also want your very soul. They want all of east Asia to become like the Philippines down to being a child bride factory for westerners and Israelis. Hearing Lai et al along with other Taiwan elites who converted to Protestant American style Christianity to gain favour is cringe as is any East Asian because they combine the very worse of Confucianism with Christianity.
You effectively get a cult, like the taiping rebellion.

This time, make sure the western officials kowtow properly to the Chinese hegemon.

Now that Ukraine is at the verge of defeat, it's not surprising the Lai regime would throw it under the bus without hesitation.

Brazil is a bad comparison as they have no domestic alternatives. Even if China wants to have unlimited access import to US chips it would be best to wait until the domestic chip suppliers are matured enough to compete in open market. Now is actually the best time to close things off a bit, Trump and Biden did us a huge favor, no need to give it away so soon.

Im old enough to remember back in early 2010s Hillary going around lecturing China on Internet freedoms.... of speech etc

Nowadays the US is deplatforming and destroying the careers of those who speak against Charlie Kirk... not to mention banning TikTok because it exposed Israeli genocide...

And ICE is literally rounding up people in the streets... when I predicted concentration camps I thought it would just be limited to Chinese Americans

And soon Americans will be starving in mass... with the gay frog dude predicting Civil War II.... and even sensible folks like Ray Dalio saying it's game over

This is the fastest decline from unipolar hegemony in human history

Russian, Syrian defense ministers talk bilateral cooperation in Moscow

Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov met in Moscow on Tuesday with his Syrian counterpart, Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

During the negotiations, the foreign ministers discussed "the practical implementation of promising areas of bilateral cooperation," the ministry said.

Abu Qasra was appointed defense minister by Syria's interim government in 2024.

Sharaa visited Moscow in October

In mid-October, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa visited Moscow and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Sharaa used the talks with Putin to formally request that Moscow hand over Bashar Assad to face trial over alleged crimes against Syrians.

Sharaa pledged to honor all previously signed agreements between the two countries, a commitment seen as a signal that Russia's two main military bases in Syria remain secure.

He was also hoping to secure economic concessions from Russia, including the resumption of wheat supplies on favorable terms and compensation for war damage. He pledged to honor all past deals struck between Russia and Syria, suggesting that Moscow's two main military bases on Syrian territory are safe.

Abu Qasra led overthrowing of Assad

Sharaa overthrew Bashar al-Assad, who was backed by Russia, in December 2024. In 2015, Russia intervened to support the Assad regime against the Syrian rebels while protecting its bases in the country. Assad was in power since 2000 before being ousted by the Islamist rebel group Hay'at Tahir al-Sham.

Abu Qasra, also known by his war name Abu Hassan 600, was a senior leader in the rebel group, spearheading the campaign that eventually led to Assad's fleeing from Syria.

The Assads are now living discreetly in Moscow after Putin granted the family asylum.

Overthrows Assad. Still goes back to Russia. The Americans and Europeans basically achieved nothing because they won’t lift sanctions.

NASA’s groundbreaking X-59 supersonic jet took off from Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, California, marking the first test of a jet designed to fly faster than sound without the explosive boom. Built by Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works, the aircraft can cruise at 55,000 feet and reach speeds up to 925 MPH, producing a soft “thump” instead of a sonic blast.
