From what I’ve heard the South Korean “illegal immigrants” were cream of the crop of skilled technicians who came to Georgia to teach Americans how to operate machineries for making batteries. Way to go ICE.

Now Trump wants them to stay.

Return of detained Korean workers in US delayed as Trump encouraged their stay, Seoul says

The repatriation of some Korean 300 nationals detained in a U.S. immigration raid was delayed after President Donald Trump encouraged them to remain in the country to work, the Korean government said, as President Lee Jae Myung cautioned that the latest incident could affect Korean investments in the United States.

"President Trump said the detained Korean nationals are all skilled workers, and that he wanted to explore whether they could stay in the U.S. to continue working and training American workers, rather than return home," a foreign ministry official told reporters in Washington Wednesday (local time). "He therefore ordered the repatriation process to be put on hold.”

The official noted that the explanation came during a meeting between Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington earlier that day.
In response to Trump's proposal, Cho told Rubio that since the detained Korean citizens were extremely shocked and exhausted, it would be better for them to return home first and then come back to the U.S. to work.

"The U.S. side respected our view and agreed to let the detained Koreans return home," the foreign ministry official said.

In Seoul, at a press conference marking his first 100 days in office, Lee said the unprecedented immigration raid on Koreans had left Korean companies in the United States “very unsettled” and would have a “significant impact” on their direct investment in Washington.

"You need skilled technicians to install equipment at a factory. The U.S. doesn’t have such personnel, yet visas for those coming for this purpose are not allowed," he said during a press conference Thursday when asked about the detained Koreans.

"If this is not allowed, our companies will face all kinds of difficulties and disadvantages when setting up factories in the U.S., and they will inevitably question whether they should proceed. This may have a significant impact on their direct investments in the U.S."

Lee added that as the two sides are negotiating to secure additional quotas or create a new visa category for Korean workers, Washington will likely address the matter from a practical standpoint.

A Korean Air chartered plane carrying 316 Koreans is scheduled to depart Atlanta on Thursday at noon (local time), with one detainee choosing to remain in the U.S., according to the ministry. The plane was initially scheduled to depart the previous day.

The foreign ministry official said Trump instructed U.S. authorities to escort the detainees to the airport without handcuffs, despite strict regulations, "in line with Korea's strong request."

Cho said Seoul has secured assurances that "there will be no disadvantages when the Koreans reenter the U.S.," adding that he has also confirmed with Washington that swift consultations will be launched on establishing a new visa category for Korean workers.

Aboard the plane will be a total of 330 people, including 14 foreign nationals — 10 Chinese, three Japanese and one Indonesian — who were also arrested in the raid.

The planned release of the detainees from a detention center in Folkston, Georgia, comes after they were arrested during a massive Sept. 4 raid at an electric vehicle battery plant construction site near Savannah, operated by a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution.

Most of the detained Korean workers had entered the U.S. on short-term business visas or through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), a travel visa typically used for short visits.

The actual intelligence apparatus in the west is fine and have the full resources of their nations to have intelligence on the PLA far beyond what we know in the public; the issue is more the west's public facing/non-classified thinktank and media space reporting on the PLA.
Idk about that, why would the intelligence apparatus purposely hide Chinese MIC's strengths if they know their own MIC is behind and not tell congress? I feel like it's much more likely they never got pass Chinese counterintelligence and just started to underestimate China again, similar to how they underestimated Chinese during the Korean war. Like they literally cancelled NGAD before China unveiled multiple 6th gens

I really can't tell if I'm just doomscrolling or if most of the world really is losing it right now.

You are right. Everyone is losing their shit at the same time, everywhere!

Some of them deserve it. Some do not. Okay, who are we kidding, most of them deserve it. :p

Do not want to sound racist, I see not many Chinese people there in these videos going crazy!

That Nepal videos of their riots were very revealing. That country is poor as dirty. Notice the cars on the streets. There are no cars on the streets. They were that poor. China was like that 40 years ago, no one owned a car. Nepal was like that 40 years ago too. We know that because they still do not own any cars! No cars parked on the streets. Maybe they all parked underground.

Then the immigrants storm some golden Bastille in France. Way to go! Keep going with the traditions.

Then farmers in Canada and especially the United States facing hard times, it was reported 33% of farmers face bankruptcy in the midwest. But the Anglos will take it for the team, suffer quietly, and alone.

Bad leadership has a price.

Ironically, President Trump is not a bad leader. People believe in him. He also is lucky that he is the leader of one of the most wealthy countries on earth.

President Trump has a problem with society, with crime, assassinations, people living pay cheque to pay cheque, unwanted immigration, strange foreign policy, and shit.

This is the interesting part I find, that there is no way out. There is no simple direct way for all these countries to solve all these inter-related problems.

As for China, the biggest problems it faced, in my lifetime, would be the widespread poverty and exhaustion of the nation after the Cultural Revolution, the 6.4 incident in 1989, the Asian Financial crisis of 1998, and covid pandemic. Noticed how these problems became less severe over time. Comrade Deng was right, in a time of relative peace, got to make the most out of it.

Let's see how these countries get out of their mess.

:p

Having a competent and capable intelligence apparatus does not mean that decision makers in the military or in the civilian government have the competence to act on it.

I love this so much. I love it so, so much. I'm going to quote Lt Colonel Trumpgore from Chipocalypse Now because it expresses my sentiment perfectly: someday this presidency's gonna end.

Some day, this war is going to end.

But not today, not tomorrow, heck, no one really knows.

It is what the Chinese talks about, luan, 乱 or 亂 because that is what we are seeing, somewhere else.

Didn't the bible people have the four horseman of something and something another something and something else?

I think one of them was the plague.

We had that. The pandemic. That came.

That is why the Americans have no patience, which makes them to appear to have no knowledge.

When the four horsemen comes, and I do not even know who they are, they will not come all at once, they will take their time if the state or people vulnerable.

They will come one after the other.

Chaos. War. Who knows what is next!?
