Even when Europeans were conceding Chinese skill and quality in things like porcelain or admiring the idea of civil service selecting based on merit, there would still be some grasping at straws to try and still be superior like (paraphrasing) "But they are idolatrous heathens and we worship the One True God so we are still superior despite them being better in just about everything else". The west like the preach enlightenment ideas like critical thinking but never actually uphold it. Anyone with a brain (like me) would have realised that the claim that western countries are enlightend is a scam because they never given liberty and freedom to their colonies aswell as the working class despite plently of enlightenment philosophers opposing colonialism (Voltaire is not one of them). Chinese people who argued that westernization would lead to modernization are to be frank, completly retarded. They forget that during the Industrial revolution the common man lived no different or arguably worse than a Qing dynasty commoner because of horrible working conditions and no workers rights (Remember the British government did nothing about child labour) and that only changed when the workers started to fight back.

People keep pretending that America produces viable export goods to the developing world, it does not, even to its traditional allies it barely does so, the only reason people pretends it does is that its supposedly a "Liberal democracy" and so people keep pretending that the emperor still got it.
China makes goods that consumer actually wants and infrastructure that countries actually need. America makes goods that nearly unusable outside of its borders and would get immediately extinguished inside its own border if it let its tariffs down. What it's good at is creating military conflict in your neighborhood and selling you the obscenely overpriced protection racket, that is its most viable export industries.

I remember seeing a talking head say the following, "governments cannot innovate", and I lost it right then and there. Even if we confine ourselves to just the US government post-World War II, the Interstate system, the GPS system, and the freaking internet were all made possible only because of the government! And the speaker was representing some thinktank or other. It goes to show that all of these thinktanks are completely worthless.
Funny enough, it's exactly because of people like this that the US is so unprepared to take on China, so it's not exactly China that's getting hurt.
Heh, reminds me of western Genshin Impact players who talked about how Chinese companies love different cultures but hate the people whom the culture belongs to, which is why MiHoYo wouldn't add darker skinned characters to the game.
