Yes, I know there will be sampling bias, but multiple western surveys show high approval rates of China in China, in the 80%+ regime compared to <50% in many western countries. They show the same for Russia too. Which match domestic polls.
The problem with Iran is that yes, they actually are that infiltrated. They might not be pro west to the point of open rebellion yet but clearly there are enough rats to not only build a saboteur base inside Iran, but have a population apathetic enough to let it happen and not report it to the police.
Xi Jinping remarked that despite millions of members, very few CCCP members came out to defend the Soviet Union against Yeltsin and the public was apathetic. This sort of apathy is much easier to do.
In the end, it’s seems the idea that Iran was going to do nothing like some have suggested in regards to Israel bombing Iran is truly living in lala land. These things take time to process and given Irans large size as a country compared to Israel, it simply means that Israel has much less room for error in regards to self defence and thus any missile that get through as shown right now, is going to have an effect that Netanyahu is going to be hard pressed to hide from the world. I don’t see much in terms of Netanyahu’s chances in the near future if the damages piled high enough
The problem for China in Iran is that China has supported and enabled western sanctions against Iran and always has big promises of investment but then nothing materialises. Worse, China refuses to sell advanced weapons. Iran used to be a big customer of the Chinese defence industry but no more.
Obviously people in Iran know that the US is fighting against them, but China was supposed to be on the same anti western team but instead is joining them against Iran. This feeling of betrayal by China is much worse than just being hated by the west.
Look at how China is removing visa requirements for dozens of countries but still requires them for Iran. It's not as if Iranians are likely to overstay their visa in China. The reality is that China has bought the American anti Iran story that Iran is a fully religious government and China just isn't that friendly to Iran. You can't expect Iran to love China even as China insults Iran
China also still requires visas for Israelis. Israel doesn't even get the 240 hour visa-free transit that almost all other high or mid-high income countries have. Israel is by far the highest GDP per capita country that doesn't qualify for China's visa waiver or 240 hour visa-free transit program.
China isn't even explicitly condemning the attacks, it just opposes them. No Chinese UN draft resolutions to condemn the attacks. It's not calling out the western powers for enabling the attacks. It's not sharing satellite images or other intelligence with Iran, which could be done secretly. China seems to be hoping for the same thing as Iranian pro West liberals, regime change and a more Saudi style government to do business with. No wonder China isn't super popular in Iran. But it's also easy to change that. Once a Pacific war breaks out with the US, China might wish it had supplied weapons to Iran to open another front and divert US weapons to defend Israel. But by then it might be too late
Yeah and we know this because China never publicly said it's secretly providing Iran with intel. I mean where do you think Iran gets the advanced guidance systems and materials used in their missiles and drones? Their famous domestic electronics industry? lol
China truly doesn't want a regional conflict, but if you think China's naive you clearly haven't been watching daily videos of Chinese drones killing people in Ukraine.

No but I'm disappointed that political theory and governance has basically not changed since the Qin dynasty.
