What they say and what they do are two different things. Trump and co don't want US hegemony to end, what they don't want is the liabilities that comes with being the global hegemon.

They need to create casus belli for war because it's the only way they can get crew (UK, EU, Japan, and maybe South Korea) together, form like Voltron and take on China. The Americans are losing confidence that they can go to war with China on their own (nevermind what internet nerds think). If the US confronted and attacked China on it's own without the crew.

This is almost certainly the CIA using MI6 as a condom to make the demand so they can spy on Americans without technically spying on Americans, since it’s the British who will be doing the actual dirty.

All such ‘British’ access requests will need to go through an U.S. agency, so the British almost certainly won’t be able to make any independent requests themselves without US approval first.

The CIA would have had back doors from the very start and can see anyone’s data any time them wanted. The only problem that this will now fix is that domestic US laws makes it difficult for them to make use of any such illicitly gain data. Now they can just say it came from the British and not have any restrictions.

I'm not opposed to that, if there's no other solution, killing millions of invader draftees will ensure their new generations can't rise up against China again. If there's millions of people ready to join a nazist invasion of Taiwan, those people deserve to eat bombs all day.

Humanity can't become an interplanetary civilization if not helmed by China. Our options if an American invasion of Taiwan succeeds is in the order of likelihood, 1. Nuclear MAD or 2. A slow death from climate change/overpopulation which an US led world would be wholly unable to handle.

Using China's national power to get rid of anyone trying to achieve those outcomes is by far the lesser evil.

The US suffering 6 digit level losses of white americans will instill a Genghis Khan level of fear of China in their psyche. This is good for governing them in the future.

"U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an Executive Order targeting South Africa by formally cutting off aid to the country and attacking it for human rights abuses.

The order cites the Land Expropriation law signed recently by President Cyril Ramaphosa as targeting white minority farmers.

It also mentions South Africa's actions against Israel at the International Court of Justice.
