personally, I believe what he said was not wrong.

US has all the high-end AI chips which is a huge advantage in the long run.

From what I am reading in this forum, SMIC has limited 7nm capacities. yes, ASML is still selling to China, and yes domestic HBM just started.

With DeepSeek soaring in popularity, not sure SMIC can produce enough AI chips to meet the demand.

Run one of the distilled models locally. Unless you need an AI assistant for competition level math, software engineering or some such, the smaller models are enough to service the vast majority of day to day requests.

In the long run either China controls TSMC or TSMC gets destroyed or US gets cut off from all Asian semiconductor, there is no long run for the Americans.

In the short run you'll need to squeeze 50x better performance out of 1 node increment to make up for superior Chinese sofware, and node improvements are barely 10%

Americans can't brute their way out of fundamentally inferior culture....
