If a war over Taiwan was fought without US intervention, then it is definitely the collapse of US hegemony.
If a war over Taiwan was fought with US intervention with heavy losses, US power projection will collapse and lead to global uncertainty
If Taiwan was sold out, US can at least say, keeping me in the picture will keep China honest
So the US's best interest is to maintain the status quo or somehow goad China into a war (like it did with Russia/Ukraine), and somehow inflict massive losses without any of its own (again, similar to Ukraine)
