This is important. Economics won this for Al Qaeda-in-sheep's clothing. We saw many propagandists claim that the Syrian Ba'ath government had no popular support from the start and was only waiting to fall. Before 2020, the SAA had 9 years to surrender without fighting, and most did not, even before the Russian and Iranian intervention ramped up. They should have collapsed like this back then. This 2015 ORB survey attached below, from the West, structured evenly across Syrian provinces and age groups, showed that negative responses toward Assad, while over 50%, was still less negative than views toward Al Nusra or even the FSA/Opposition. Another ORB survey in 2018 showed similar results. That may explain why the Turks are so anxious to conquer the Kurds (and their oil) now, before economics cripple their occupation and start another rebellion: Turkish UAVs are penetrating south of Manbij

I didn't know the Ukrainian government is officially claiming to be the rightful government of the Russian Federation.
Even if the Russians felt Ukraine is their Taiwan, you can still woo them over in many other ways other than brute force, KGB government doesn't understand this and haven't learned anything from embarrassing fall of their empire and subsequent dissolution of the Soviet Union. When the only weapon you have is force you're playing a losing game.
Between 1993 until 2014, every thing the Russians did in Ukraine was to lend support to their sympathizers in Ukraine, and they were successful in getting their guys in government for most of the period. The reason why war started is because the Pro-West faction stormed the Pro-Russian government buildings with looted police guns, prompting the Russians to respond in kind by arming their guys in Donbass. You are overestimating how much scope the Russians had to act in Ukraine after 2014.
Russia did woo Ukraine with massive benefits, as China did woo Taiwan economically. But you cant just have carrot, you also need stick, because NATO has stick and they used it in 2014 coup. Russia is using theirs now, just as China will use it on Taiwan
Let them complain. They're going through a grieving period after having their facade of supposed strength brutality exposed by their adversaries. Lashing out at the people who actually cared for them is not a fault, but a feature of their kind. Blaming on others while not reflecting on their own mistakes. That's how they'll continue to get fucked around by their adversaries.
They want to treat China as a little brother. What does China know about diplomacy and warfighting compared to themselves? They want China to respect their independence, yet when they fuck up, they suddenly demand that China bail them out. You cannot have your cake and eat it. If your choices ends up in disaster, then you bear the consequences, not others.
Those Russians think that they know how to fight wars far better than China. Then they were exposed to drone warfare and the much more nimble NATO tactics in Ukraine. They wanted to play the role of big brother to Turkey and India. Look at how stupid they look now. Iran drags it's feet when doing business with China, but readily welcomes business from the West, and Russia. China is not good enough for you? Fine, then don't blame China if you're wrong. Your "Axis of Resistance" is crumbling. Do you still feel vindicated by your choices?
