How many indigenous submarines does India operate right now? Are they completely 100% indigenous?

Can they build their own nuclear reactors yet?

If the answer to both is "no" then this is another example of trying to walk before they crawl. They probably think if china can do it, they can too.

But Being bombastic in their intentions but then failing to achieve their goals 10-12 yrs down the road, wouldn't that be a bigger hit to their ego? I would imagine so.

Russian state-owned energy giant Rosatom is planning to have four non-nuclear icebreaker ships built in India, The Economic Times reported on Thursday, citing an official. New Delhi is already considering one state-owned and one private shipbuilder for the plan, the report said.

The matter is currently being concretized by the Indian and Russian governments, the unnamed official said, adding that the parties are also discussing the possibility of engaging in shipbuilding and the repair of Russian vessels in India’s shipyards, as well as the training of Indian seafarers in Polar waters.

Russia wants more icebreakers for it's Northern Sea Route (NSR) project. So, it is planning to entrust India to build it's non-nuclear ice-breakers. Good, let them experience the might of Supapowar shipbuilding.

The plan is still not finalized yet, but I can already hear the Jai Hinds celebrating like no tomorrow. If the plan really does goes ahead, I do wonder how long it'll take for the first ships to be completed. I look forward to Russia going forward with this plan. They still need more lessons about India.

As much as I'd love to clown Russia for this, I think it has to do with Chinese shipyards not wanting to deal with Western hissy fits. Given the kind of business they do with Euro shipping operators, they don't want to upset that for a handful of Russian ships.

Two Arihant-class SSBNs. The first one had gone through seawater treatment due to an opened hatched during a dive. It's actual status is unknown.

Are they 100% indigenous? Knowing the Indians, I highly doubt they are.

The Arihant-class reactors were apparently built by Babha Atomic Research Center (BARC). So it's a yes. But is it good? That's another topic for discussion.

The way their ego work is not the same as normal people. If they fail 10-12 year's down the road, they'll just set a new deadline and forget about the old one. Then they'll tell everyone amazing stories about how their delayed SSNs are gonna sweep the PLAN aside. If you press them on why they didn't hit their last deadline, they'll blame "evil China", and every other thing in this universe but themselves.

According to Indian media, it's because Chinese shipyards are fully booked until 2028.

“In Europe, there is nobody to make these ships for Russia because of sanctions and their own issues, while yards in China, South Korea and Japan are booked till at least 2028. Hence, Russia is looking at options; nobody is there other than India with whom it has excellent relations.

I don't believe that BS. But let's assume that Chinese shipyards are fully booked till 2028. If Russia somehow orders new icebreakers from China in 2028, China would still complete those icebreakers years ahead of India's first icebreakers.

What a lame excuse thinking China won't target European luxury brands because there's a lot of business for it in China. The same can be said for how Chinese EVs are going to be dominating the European market that they want to stop. Do not have the time to read the Yahoo piece. But I actually think it is not a bad idea for China to spare the European luxury goods unless the trade tensions keep escalating.

The European luxury brands do not hire many in their home states [1]. Hitting them with higher tariffs won't produce enough impact economically and politically in EU. It can even backfire because many of these luxury brands have outsourced the production in China and other global south countries. Their outlets also hire many locals in China and other developing countries.

Making luxury goods does not require a lot of advanced technologies and manufacturing capability. Most profit comes from marketing, followed by the designs. If China has to balance the trade with the EU, I would rather China can choose luxury clothing, jewelry and hand bags than machining tools, jet liners and lithograph machines.

China has done it right by aiming at the alcohol, meat, dairy products first. These have most of the supply chains and processing within their home states. The impact will have the least risk of overspill.

Luxury goods are necessary evils. Until Chinese brands catch up, China will have to keep importing from EU or some other places to meet the demands. Raising the tariffs too high on the imported luxury goods will create a bigger black market for smuggling.

[1] According to Wikipedia, "As of 2009, the group employed more than 83,000 people, 30 percent of LVMH's staff worked in France". I would imagine that percentage is much less than 30% now that LVMH employees more 200000 worldwide.
