As usual the problem is the US is pulling the puppet strings of Europe. You have US allies going to China to make deals but they're also being instructed by the US what their agenda should include. If they don't need China then don't bother to go. The Western media will ignore how they're the ones begging with hat-in-hand in China and spin it to say that China meets with Western leaders because China needs their business. Europe's problem is they obey the US in not selling what China wants and then they whine expecting China to make up the difference caused by them listening to the US. That's the deficit they created not China.
When it comes to economics, there's no difference between high value ( the West) and low value (China). Money is money no matter where it comes from. It's the medium to getting everything they want. So it's their fault they shot themselves in the foot taking away money that they were making before. Easy solution if China is not falling for their spin is to buy less from China to rebalance trade. But again in economics, money is money and the low end stuff is just as important as the high end stuff. They buy from China because if they don't, it'll cost them more getting it from somewhere else. That's why the US is also in panic when China is not buying something as simple as their fruit and vegetables. They need money to fund research and development in advanced technologies.
What's the difference between China and any other country? China has 1.4 billion money spending consumers while most other countries do not. Selling fruits and vegetable to them can be just as profitable as selling advanced technology.

It's better to have competitors. They keep the industry competitive, innovative, and prices low. Otherwise, the industry becomes decadent and you get overpriced mediocre quality products.
With foreign manufacturers operating in your country, you also get some tech and experience transferred to your citizens who can later be employed in local operations.
And if you force foreigners out, especially the ones backed by foreign governments, you will be pushing them to innovate. They won't just give up, and that could be more detrimental to your competitive edge later on. Better to keep them reigned in in your own control where you can manipulate them to their slow and inevitable demise.
