About the "Palestinian Unity deal", there is a immediate materialistic effect. Gaza was ruled by Hamas who is separate from Fatah government. Without the deal, Gaza is "free" for Israel to grab, Israel does not have to hand over Gaza to Fatah. Now Hamas and Fatah make a unity government, that oblige Israel to hand over the control of Gaza after it "eliminate" Hamas. Another interesting thing to watch is that Fatah agreed with Israel to stop fighting, Hamas didn't. It would be interesting to see what would be the position of the new unity government. In a sense, Israel contributed to unite the two fighting factions of Palestinians, what an irony!
