The case of the Ashkenazi and holy texts is an interesting one:
The Torah explicitly describes Ashkenaz as a grandson of Japheth who left the the Holy Lands to reside in the northern countries. Japheth's brother is Shem - the descendants of Shem are called Semites (which include Arabs). One of Shem's descendants is Jacob (whose honorific title is Israel). Descendants of Jacob are called Israelites. The Torah further describes Ashkenaz explicitly as a nation of the Gentiles (literally: non-Jewish).

In short,
according to the Torah, Ashkenaz is neither Semitic, nor Israelite, nor Jewish. Yet, the Ashkenazi of today claim the exact opposite, and make up 80% of all modern Jews. Zionism originated among the Ashkenazi.
Further, the Ashkenazi follow Rabbinic Judaism which prioritizes the Talmud above the Torah. Talmud was a book developed by Jewish Rabbis when the Jews were in Babylonian captivity and separated from the Torah. The Ethiopian Jews and the tiny minority Karaite Jews reject the Talmud as man-made.
So, apart from racial bias displayed by the Ashkenazi Israelis, there is also an internal religious divide.
