Seems to me like Japan is hedging both side.
If possible, Japan, as a whole, would not like to see China's rise as an economic and industrial competitor, esp when the former see themselves as the superior East Asian race since WW1.
Yet perhaps their ruling elites gauges that it is impossible to stop a nation of 1.4b, so why not also fall in to enjoy the fruit of her burgeoning market.
But the hate and disdain against Chinese will always be there, waiting for the right opportunity to reveal.
