It's because China does nothing. It needs to respond, because Western power only respect strength. China should ban all Italian luxury goods.
But the corrupt officials, and even the nouveau rich wives, concubines, etc..will b..ch and complain that they're being punished by the big bad government. Why can't the silly CPC just accept all the demands and then some so their lives can live without worry. Oh poor folks.

I am always wondering why the CPC stays so passive in internstional affairs, it is about time to punch back
Isolationist government + booming economy means they don't really need to actively engage in order for things to work out.

Much of the communist leadership is only interested in running their personal area in China's internal affairs. They are not career politicians, but worker representants taken from their respective field.

Stuff like the trade war and chip ban if anything has just succeeded in validating the dove clique, because they argued China didn't need to be tough on the west and would still come out on top, and their prediction came true.

It would take longer term remodelling of the CPC through western hostility that has a real effect, or a single Pearl Harbor/Twin towers moment from the west in order to wake up the Chinese consciousness.

Getting stabbed in the back after 2008 financial crisis by Pivot to Asia not enough? Are we really gonna gave to wait for the real GenZedong to take the reins of CPC leadership before counterforce is applied?

The Modi government is essentially a Fascist regime. The only reason its atrocities have been covered up by the Western MSM is that it's a rival of China.
I am not a fan of the word fascist. It has a quite specific meaning. But yes, the Modi govt is just one of those religious-nationalist populist governments. These governments are very common with developing democracies. They tend to be very unsuccessful.

India as It Is

Washington and New Delhi Share Interests, Not Values

A great eyeopening long read on the changing western attitude towards India. There is a reason why India is in the position its in. I think if one were to rationally evaluate the US-China and US-India relationships, one would easily conclude the US-China relationship is much more fruitful.

People and especially Indians often forget that the Indian nationalist movement i.e., the precursor to modern day Indian state, was allied with the axis powers. Indians' claim that they deserve to be a permanent member of the UN security council is laughable since the UN and UNSC is fundamentally based on the big (four/five) powers who won the fight against the axis powers during WWII.

Unironically not enough, when China became no 1 economy just a few years after 2008 crisis. The way politicians would argue is that it was a cost of business which China ultimately walked away from with benefits.

Last decade has just emboldened doves more, because they haven't been punished for their actions.

Even so, people have gradually oriented away from US friendly towards neutrality. But improving national awareness is China's biggest enemy, not external threats.
