Not sure if you are joking or never used tiktok or just only watch twerking vids, but one usage of tiktok has been an easy outlet for people expressing opinons on anything like politics or news.

lol, the trade war is a total Chinese victory, and China has already banned Bytedance from selling the TikTok IP. The only thing that can be sold is the brand name, if they want to pay $200 billion for the right to use the name "TikTok" they're welcome to do so.

I don't know why anyone would call the trade deal with Trump as humiliated. Basically, Trump wants China to give up any technology advancement and remain as a low value added labor intensive county but ending up agreeing that China only needs to buy extra American products. It was a lousy deal for Trump but Trump needed a win so after 3 years of negotiation Trump accepted a trade deal that was purposed to him from the very beginning.

To be fair, China has not abide by the trade deal and doesn't seem to plan to abide at all. The US has neither pushed for it again. I think at this point, China wants to make as much money off the US as the US slowly tries to decouple.

China refused to the sell last time and i doubt they will allow for a sale this time. Selling tiktok only hurts staff in China and makes foreign investors of bytedance richer.

TikTok can't be sold per 中国禁止出口限制出口技术目录:


"基于数据分析的个性化信息推送服务技术" was added to prohibited for export list in 2020 to deal with the pressure on TikTok back then, completely preventing them from entertaining selling off to Oracle. At the end of 2022 it was further updated per above screenshot to list examples like "optimization for user preference based on analysis of big data" to make it even more clear it's targeted at TikTok.

China did a lot more than just agree to buy more products. China opened up its financial system to fully owned US investment banks like Goldman Sachs. In the past they had to do minor steak Joint ventures. This was one of the demands of the US. China opened up many other fields to western investment that did not need a JV. That's how Tesla came along. In the past, Auto industry also needed JV's. And this was done AFTER the trade war in order to placate to complains from US and Europeans about China closing off its market.

People seem to have weak memory about the kinds of rhetoric coming from the west and western media at that time. It was not lets decouple from China, it was China closes its market from us and supports its companies, we need to force China to open up.

Guess what, China did open up. You could argue in hindsight that this is what Chinese government wanted. But they certainly didn't do it on their own. They were forced to do it.

China hoped that if they opened up they could stop the trade war. But of course what happened next was beyond expectation. West got so afraid of China and so hell bent about stopping China's rise that they decided they no longer wanted access to the chinese market. In fact they wanted to get out of China, they wanted decoupling.

This profound shift happened in 2019-2020 period when Hong Kong protest was raging and Covid came after wards. So now, China's opened up market wants western companies to invest but political pressure in the west is to look at any investment in china as helping China.

So, In the end China made many concessions but things got so worse that in the end it didn't matter.
