This feels like fearmongering tbh.
The author wants to elicit the feeling of an imminent Japanese attack against China but in reality the location is just an indefensible island that is undisputed Japanese territory.
Global times is probably pushing the agenda of increased spending in China. Which honestly is not a bad idea, especially now that covid is over, all the resources used by the government in that area can be given to other purposes.
So Japan wants to suffer the same fate it has inflicted on China almost a century ago. I wonder if they realize what they are about to get themselves into. With an economy like Japan right now, any kind of economic defense activity of this kind on a mass scale could put their economy on suicide watch and given that the USA is having trouble arming Ukraine right now, trying to arm Japan on top of that is simply overkill for all parties involved. China in the end will bring down Japan by doing nothing. That is if GT is telling the truth but then again, they did make wrong calls before and Japan seems to be more interested in food channels/anime nowadays rather then the real world so any cause for a war on Japans part is probably a childish smoke screen like Abe seems to resort to all the time to gas light the Japanese into thinking the economy is doing well when it isnt

They should be annexed by China after the next war with Japan.
They can monitor Taiwan and Chinese airspace and keep everyone in their toes.
Imagine a unification war happens and Japan doesn't intervene but it shares ISR with the US military and Taiwan. That island would be a goldmine for the US and China would probably not strike as long as Japan doesn't start anything kinetic.
Also it would complicate PLAAF operations as it would have to be careful during the whole war to not slip up and Japanese find an opportunity to punish it.
Its like having a 3rd party's submarine at the area, you know 99% that it won't hurt you, but it still is a pain the ass to be careful of it

It gives China a good reason to permanently balkanize Japan in the next war, since they've proven that they can't be a truly pacifist state, and that given enough time they'll become militarist again.
