Football is probably the most competitive sport there is. There are lots of countries where children growing up will have one goal, which is to become a footballer. There are lots of countries that are football mad but perform poorly on the international stage.

Most Olympic sports on the other hand have low rates of participation, and as equipment/facilities access is limited for many people it's much easier to improve your performance at the Olympics by just throwing money at it.

My solution to the Chinese national team is to send @ansy1968 to as many African countries as possible. In 20 years many half Chinese African will be eligible for the Chinese national team....
Problem is not genetics…. African teams, despite Africans being acknowledged as the most athletic people, are not even as good as Japan or South Korea, both which are supposed to be worse athletically… It is issue of management, only Xi himself can solve this problem ….

Argentina is not a good investment for China because they are already a lost cause and with the Americans however Afghanistan is a relieable investment and divertion.. If China has to arm anyone it is the afghans this will lift pressure of china. creating something the West gets occupied with.. Creating another monster for deflection tactics
at this point I think it would be better to invest in their soccer team rather than their military. I would imagine the UK cares for the World Cup more than the falklands too

Even Reuters is writing this. Turns out Lithuania and Ukraine is not an alternative to the EU and China. And basing everything on finance and education, and killing the industry was a bad idea.
Reuters is being too optimistic. UK economy to shrink in 2023 and risks 'lost decade'? A collapse looks more likely at this stage. Plus it won't be any 'lost decade' for an economy that collapsed. Maybe the UK economy might never even return at all. They have burnt way too many bridges.

Looks like the UK wants to get taught a lesson. I don't think China will ignore UK's recent provocations.
Indeed. The UK has given more than enough justification for China to drag them further in the mud. There will be plenty of dragging that China can do. When its economy is collapsing, the UK will have other bigger issues to deal with than any defense deals with Taiwan.

The British don't truly realize that there are many people all over Asia, Africa, Americas, and Europe who are likely to rejoice at seeing the end of the UK. The most important piece of the remaining vestiges of the old British Empire. All empires end, and it is long overdue for the British Empire to die for good.

colleague Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. This should make it easier for the citizens of both countries to study, research and work in the other country. Before that, Jaishankar warned and Baerbock conceded, the German representation in India would have to organize the processing of visa applications much more quickly.
