I would laugh my ass off if Xi decided not to go to the G20. It will be a complete clown show I guess with the west using the occasion to bring up Ukraine and Taiwan.

But I guess that would also be a small insult toward Indonesia as host country.
Xi has to come, Jokowi invited him to test out South East Asia first high speed rail.

The biggest troll move would be to go to G20 but spend all his time with Widodo, Lula, Putin, MBS, Lopez Obrador, Fernandez, and maybe Macron.

So no time for Brandon, Albanese and japanese dude, you fellas want to meet Boss Xi, take a number and we'll work out something later maybe...
Putin's skipping G20 it seems. He's sending Lavrov instead -

Western discourse vis-a-vis China has always been problematic, not least due to the language barrier and cultural differences, though recent geopolitics has led to far more distorted views. One thing to note is that unlike a lot of other subjects people can be regarded as 'experts' on China in spite of them being neither fluent in the language nor having visited/resided there. This is also paired with an unfamiliarity with Chinese history and culture that leads to some rather awful takes being taken as gospel. All of this coupled with perverse interests being at play when it comes to media coverage of China, from cherrypicking news, using dubious sources (Adrian Zenz comes to mind), poor/mistranslating Chinese sources and outright fabrication. All of this means that its very difficult to take most Western news sources seriously whenever they cover China and further contributes to Chinese distrust of the West at home and abroad.
The Chinese people is the only source of legitimacy for the CPC. There is no need for permission or approval from anybody else. The sooner the Foreign Ministry understands and owns that fact, the more effective their PR will become.
