I don’t understand why these fever dream The Secret subscribers never consider that if China was so resource starved, why it wouldn’t start picking off the continental resources of its enemies, like the anglosphere which possesses at least two major continents worth of raw materials and resources, as opposed to invading a friend and ally in Russia?
Its far more likely for China to invade North America and deprive the anglos of that half of the continent rather than attacking a people who have not been such a nuisance in its history as the Anglo nation.

It doesn't particularly want Taiwan either, it is just legally bound to defend its own territory. Its not that owning Taiwan is very important, its that we cannot let imperialist and revanchist countries make it a norm to expand through military force and sponsorship of non state entities.
Suppose China didn't defend itself and US just annexes Taiwan, well, China can always actually arm up with a 5%+ military budget and expel them later.
But if US did that, it would send a message to the world that anything is up for grabs if you have the strength to get it... Taiwan would not be the last invasion of the imperial Americans, just like the Rheinland was not the last invasion of the nazi empire...
Actually owning Taiwan is extremely important. First Island Chain would be broken and Japan and S.Korea's trade lines would be basically controlled by China.
China has legal ownership already, it just needs to negotiate with the ROC faction, preferably without using force.
Only if other countries try to invade, then it makes sense to flip the table and use it as an excuse to not just defend the homeland, but eliminate threats abroad such as SK or Japan.
