Wait UK still hasn't managed to replace Huawei 5G equipment with the second rate and/or non existent non-Chinese equipment that allows basically a shadow of what Chinese 5G telecomm tech is capable of and has been servicing China with since 2018?
The UK has 4 main mobile operators who have already spent billions on 5G equipment after being told it was okay by the government to do so. Reversing that will not only mean the government will need to compensate them, but they will have to spend a much higher price on (inferior) non-Huawei equipment.

Realistically, it's not going to happen. The UK regime will virtue signal to keep the Americans happy but there's literally no money to replace the equipment.

What would be interesting is if China decides to punish the UK for it's hostile foreign policy. There is the assumption that China will continue playing a passive role in the propaganda campaign against it. That coupled with Brexit could lead to the UK becoming a mini Cuba, with everyone driving cars made in the 60s.

So they are just going to keep extending the waiver until the companies are forced to replace it themselves?

If they force telecommunication companies to get rid of equipment it will cost the UK government a lot of money. The Huawei is a security threat narrative isn't a new one, and they were specifically given the go ahead to buy the equipment back in 2019.

At some point the government will need to bite the bullet and pay for their incompetency and subservience to America.
