You need to be more careful about propagating narratives from Western MSM, specially when the language is foreign & easy to spin words. Th entire thing barely got mentioned here except some daily newspapers yet, guess who were amongst first to report it
It only take a few words to put a spin into story
AHM Mustafa Kamal also said Beijing needed to be more rigorous in evaluating its loans amid concern that poor lending decisions risked pushing countries into debt distress. He pointed to Sri Lanka, where Chinese-backed infrastructure projects that failed to generate returns had exacerbated a severe economic crisis.
But he did not say that, the last part.
However, coming back to main point, Mustafa Kamal is no nonsense guy, he is the guy who did quit ICC president post after fixed quarter final match with supa pawah. What he said was ,we should be more careful taking loans from China in time of inflation (name of china came up because China is one of our biggest infrastructure funder) . There was no comments such as debt trap. He drew parallel with Sri Lanka given the chaos it is in, not because China BRI debt trap story. Our view of sri lanka's problem is much more simpler than western narrative. You don't wanna be indebted, don't take the money.
We are currently quite possibly South Asia's most stable fastest growing economy. But first corona, & now Ukraine. But the worst was yet to come. 3 days ago we went to sleep with patrol price being 85 taka, the very next morning it was 136 taka , which created quite a bit of unrest. His comment regarding the loan came just day after that. You take loan, you need to think about how you are going to pay it back. Right now, i don't think we are in position to go outside of absolute necessity, as he mentioned.
