MDD was bought out by Boeing, it was later renamed B717, never unsupported.

You really think that Y-10 would have jumpstarted civilian airliner industry? There would never have been engines back then, plus it was an already outdated design.

It wasn’t too close, most of the government was deeply mistrustful of the West.
It wouldn't have been possible to use modern western planes and poor quality domestic planes at the same time. Passengers would have refused to fly on those airlines. Importing foreign planes could still stimulate the domestic service economy and China has a small part in the supply chain of Airbus planes today. For domestic aerospace companies it is better to focus on military contracts until they're good enough to compete on the civilian market.

It's the same in the automotive industry. Cooperating with foreign companies was extremely successful. EV technology is providing the opportunity to overtake foreign rivals that are slow to innovate. Maybe in the airplane industry it will be hydrogen or other alternative engines that will allow China to overtake Boeing and Airbus, but the aerospace industry is more like the rail industry. Most plane customers are government owned or supported. So China can quickly switch to domestic planes once it has the ability to make them.

By cooperating with foreign companies and then copying their products, China is only 5 years or so behind in technology. If it were to try to reinvent everything, it would be decades behind. Mao had many strengths, but he wasn't an economic genius

Yeah. We hear you.

India's retail inflation 'eased' from 7.04% to 7.1%? Isn't that increasing by 0.06%? What kind of mathematics is this?

Math is correct this time. But how does a Wholesale Price Index of >15% shows the 'resilience' of the Indian economy?

Howabout some perspective:

India may not have the worse inflation figures in the world. But comparing that with the dismal inflation figures in the West is really lowering the bar. For India, they only can benchmark themselves with the West, not the best. If the West is doing good, India will compare itself against its smaller South Asian neigbours, especially Pakistan. If the West is doing poorly, then India will gloat that it is doing better than the West. Yeah, that's Jai Hind!

Geopolitics is in India’s favour and its growing wealth will have positive spillover effects for the world

Plus you have this Leslie Yee from Singapore's Business Times writing this kind of crap. All of these southern Chinese - in Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong - have some kind of distended mentality. To be Chinese is shameful. To be like white or Indian is sexy? Because white and Indian like to talk nice-sounding bullshit and act like flamboyant pigs?

Families despair as America's baby formula shortage again gets WORSE: Biden announces his 17th international delivery as out-of-stock numbers rise to highest level this year

  • Biden administration announces 17th Operation Fly Formula Mission
  • But U.S. stores still struggling to stock baby formula
  • Formula availability dropped to its lowest level so far this year, with about 30% of products out of stock for the week ended July 3
  • By July 24, Operation Fly Formula will have transported more than 61 million 8-ounce bottle equivalents to the U.S., the administration noted
  • But that isn't close to being enough as U.S. consumers usually buy enough powdered formula to make about 65 million 8-ounce bottles a week

China threatens 'forceful measures' if US House Speaker visits Taiwan

Speaking in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said any visit by Ms Pelosi would “seriously undermine China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
“If the US side obstinately clings to this course, China will definitely take resolute and forceful measures to firmly defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.
“The United States must be fully responsible for all the consequences caused by this,” he added.

Surprised to see this:

China is a socialist nation committed to the ideology of Marxism-Leninism. They are currently the world leaders in green energy. They have lifted millions of people out of poverty, as recognized by the UN and World Bank. They now have a larger middle class than the U.S. They have some of the top education outcomes in the world.

Wages have grown for three consecutive decades. They have a population of 1.4 billion people. Their infrastructure is world-class, with high speed trains taking someone anywhere they need to go. The list goes on. They accomplished all of this without dropping a single bomb, launching a single drone, or starting a single war. When the U.S. thought their economic reforms were going to lead to capitalism and "liberal democracy," they portrayed them positively. The Kung Fu Panda era.

Then the dipshits in Washington realized China had no intentions of letting capitalists run the country, which they had said all along, and the panic set in of the new Red Scare. Now they publish endless fear mongering about human rights atrocities and 1984 George Orwell, just like with the Soviet Union before.

The political realignment is well underway. America still thinks it's up against the Soviet Union and that this is the 1980s. It isn't, and China learned a lot from the USSR's mistakes. We are going down. A much more peaceful and forward-thinking nation is leading the future. When you abandon the propaganda of your oppressors, you will see it is actually quite bright.
