In a local news report, John Ullyot, US security council spokeman said that China has no right to retaliate by closing US's consulate in Chengdu. However, this news couldn't be verified.

If he indeed said that, he knows its not true, its propaganda for the sheeple that can easily be fooled....

But then again, 'rights' is an abstract human construct anyway... ultimately it comes down to force /military... in this case of China closing US's consulate in Chengdu what can US do about it? nothing

Lots of Chinese have military past, the world these are all just excuses. US is trying to force Chinese to distance themselves from the government.
But why did China give her up. It just added fuel to the US narrative that closing of embassies are due to spy networks.

Because she wasn’t a government agent and doesn’t work for China. She was an opportunist who lied on her visa to get out of China and now wants protection.

All former military lie on their visas.

But giving her up gives the wrong impression that she is a spy.

It's irrelevant if she's a spy or not. All that matters is they're telling Americans she's a spy and they'll automatically believe just like they believe when it's to their interests anything said by the news media because they think there's some body that would prevent them from lying if it were not true. And why is all this happening? Because Trump wants to get re-elected as President and he has to show he's tough on China. So do you think he's concern if he wrongfully arrests anyone especially a foreigner?

Also don't forget there's probably an anticipation that China will be going back to their consulate eventually. And guess who will be installing spying devices like with what happened with China's Air Force One...?
