Gun violence spiked over Fourth of July weekend, with shootings reported in nearly every U.S. state that killed a total of at least 220 people and wounded close to 570 others, according to the

.

The database, which collects information about fatalities and injuries linked to incidents involving discharged firearms, updated its records early Tuesday. Published tallies show the number of weekend shootings was almost equal to the number of resulting injuries, with well over 500 instances of shootings documented nationwide between Friday and Monday. There were only five states where one or more shootings were not reported in that time frame.

Of all gun violence incidents accounted for during the holiday weekend,

were classified as mass shootings by the Gun Violence Archive. Any situation where four or more people, excluding the shooter, are killed or wounded by gunshots is considered a mass shooting.

The database lists 315 mass shootings across the country since the beginning of this year, and roughly 22,500 deaths caused by any form of gun violence. The number of injuries so far traced to gun violence approaches the total death toll.

Seeing an increase in gun violence around Fourth of July is not rare in the U.S., and this past weekend's reports from the Gun Violence Archive mirror those released in previous years. In 2021,

were killed and 516 were injured in shootings that took place during the same holiday weekend.

Devastating impacts of gun violence were widespread over the holiday, but certain areas were hit harder than others. In Highland Park, an Illinois suburb located about 25 miles north of Chicago, at least seven people died and more than two dozen were wounded in

targeting the neighborhood's Fourth of July parade. Some of the victims, including at least one child, were in critical condition when they were transported from the scene, Highland Park Fire Chief Joe Schrage said Monday.

, whom they identified as Robert Crimo III, in connection with the shooting. Crimo has not been charged in the attack.

But the Highland Park shooting was far from the only crime involving gun violence in the Chicago area over the weekend. Eight deaths and 68 injuries from gun violence were confirmed in city in the days leading up to Fourth of July, as well as on the holiday itself, according to

. The victims' ages reportedly ranged from 17 to 90 years old.

The supermarket shelfs really are empty, I have never seen anything like this before not even in the first week of the lock downs it was only the toilet paper that was hard to get. They might be filled again today or tomorrow after the farmers are done with their protest.

What they do is go with a couple of tractors to a distribution center block the entrance and exit gates etc. They are also riding with tractors through cities closing or slowing down traffic. Some are going on high ways to block traffic, then you have some that are blocking border crossing roads going into Belgium and Germany. But its not a complete country wide shut down except for food distribution.

I had multiple buddies from my hometown going on strike blocking distribution centers.
They have my full support the Dutch government has been going to war via lawfare with the Dutch farmers for decades already.

Is there anyone from the Netherlands here that can give a first hand account?

I was in NL not long ago for a conference, compared to the UK you guys are doing great! You produce a lot of the fresh food in Europe, and you get first dips to the LNG going into Rotterdam.

On a related note, in the conference some high up guy from Uniper was complaining how important natural gas is and how people in the government don't understand. If you replaced all cars in Germany with Teslas you could store enough one day worth of electricity, where as their LNG storage last hundreds of days, bla bla. Anyway now they are bankrupt lol:

President López Obrador said that the Statue of Liberty should be dismantled in the US if Assange is convicted of the WikiLeaks case.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said on Monday that if Julian Assange is convicted in the United States for the WikiLeaks case, a campaign should be launched to dismantle the Statue of Liberty in New York because that country would have lost its identity.
In a press conference from the National Palace, the federal president affirmed that a conviction against the journalist would mean a loss of the symbolism that the effigy represents and considered that the media should call a large concentration to demand the activist’s pardon.

“A few days ago I released a New York Times report talking about the super cop, Genaro García Luna, and it is the New York Times, and the Financial Times does the same, and The Wall Street Journal, and we are all talking Of this Assange thing, isn’t it worthwhile for the New York Times to deal with the matter, El País and to convene a meeting of the most important press in the world to exhort, request, call, so that a pardon be granted to Assange?

“If they don’t do it, they will be tarnished and we will have to start the campaign that if they take him to the US, and sentence him to the maximum sentence and die in prison, they will have to dismantle the Statue of Liberty that the French delivered and that is in New York because it is no longer a symbol of freedom”, launched the head of the Mexican Republic.
