Indeed, they'll likely make a mess if they get involved around Taiwan, not to mention the possible political problems that can come from it. But I wonder if they could aid China in perhaps deterring or standing off US and their allies with their much vaunted submarines? Anything that could free up some of China's navy, and make US rethink their strategy?
Russia's greatest assets to China right now are:
#1. Being non-hostile.
#2. Being a potential provider for food and energy.
#3. Providing an implicit nuclear umbrella.

All three are made possible by the Ukraine war. Thanks to the open hostility between Russia and the west, in any potential confrontation between China and US, US has to taken Russia's vast nuclear stockpile into their strategic consideration. Because should China and US go MAD with each other, Russia would be the sole remaining nuclear superpower. Would US really want that outcome? And the thing is, Russia didn't even have to commit anything for China. The implicit nuclear umbrella is there due to the current geopolitical climate. Frankly, Russia would be better off not getting directly involved in US/China confrontation. With their outdated equipment and poorly trained force, the Russians are probably more of a liability than an actual asset.

I thought when the West says President for life was until death? Now Xi may not get a third term according to a Westerner. Then it was never President for life. It's just no term limits which happens in the US but then couldn't vilify China for something they do themselves if they called it what it is.

Given his current age and how well guard the news is on him and his private life, one must wonder how much longer he is going to last and if you all think about it, many of the worst war hawks and neo cons in the USA are all very old and most wouldn’t last beyond 5years to a decade meaning that any potential successor is going to be much less effective going forward. Kinda shows which nation has the greater longevity. The USA focus on the individual to the point where all those that are old as the power but very little one ways of a successor to take things forward because these people hate to share power with anyone while China has a system that ensure that for each generation, they will have a capable leader. Hence if China manages to last beyond 2025 where most of Chinas worse enemies will be too old to lead effectively and the current generation is too out of touch with reality to know what is needed to lead the nation, China has it in the bag which is why the USA is trying there hardest to bring down Russia and China now but as we can see with their current performance and how they seem to fall back on there same schemes that worked in the past because they lost touch with the world in there old ages and cannot think of anything new, things are not going to go in a positive direction
