This change they're seeking can also back fire and can be used against the U.S. just what makes them so certain that such eventuality can not be used against them at a later date? Hubris is going to be America's downfall
It can backfire but only in the long-term.
US+EU power is far too powerful for smaller states to "rebel".
Just watch how the UN voted on Russia's invasion against Ukraine and you will understand.

Indeed. They are going for "soft" nullify. We will see if they have the courage to then try and go for "hard" nullify in the future
There are no permanent friends, only permanent interests. That's a timeless maxim that applies to the U.S. then, now, and in the future. Just because the current geopolitical contests/conflict with Russia/Ukraine situation is showing strong solidarity between the U.S. and E.U. that does not mean such scenario is going to persist or lasts till kingdom come.
That's why I said long term though. For the coming years, the US will use the Russia card in order to keep the EU as its puppet.
I remember a year ago when people really believed in a EU neutrality. I had then cautioned, that the US is far too powerful in the EU for them to be able to be neutral. The US has too many cards in reserve to use whenever it wants to keep Europe in line.
Don't underestimate Americans, they are very influencial in Europe.
Just look at Germany. They got a CIA-party in power there. Look at EU institutions, they are all captured by them. Look at European Parliament, the same. Media, NGOs, local political parties, think tanks, social media, culture etc. Almost everything is US-controlled
