Egypt, Turkey, Bangladesh and Iran buy 60 percent of their wheat from Russia and Ukraine, according to the United Nations food agency.

This may explain why the Iran Deal is stalling since it doesn’t appear theIranians are proceeding without the Russians.

Adding to the pressure, countries that rely on wheat from Russia and Ukraine are likely to increase import levels. Egypt, Turkey, Bangladesh and Iran buy 60 percent of their wheat from Russia and Ukraine. Also heavily reliant on those two countries’ wheat exports are Lebanon, Tunisia, Yemen, Libya and Pakistan.

The United States, Argentina and other wheat-producing nations are likely to limit exports as governments seek to ensure domestic supply, he said.

The UN agency said its simulations suggest that “the global number of undernourished people could increase by 8 to 13 million” in 2022-2023, particularly in Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa.

“Worryingly, the resulting global supply gap could push up international food and feed prices by 8 to 22 percent above their already elevated levels,” FAO’s report said

During 2021, global prices of wheat and barley rose 31 percent and rapeseed and sunflower oil prices jumped by more than 60 percent. Wheat prices have surged more than 50 percent since a week before the invasion.

Imported food accounts for about two-thirds of the total available volume of food in Yemen, about four-fifths of total available calories and almost 90% of total available cereals

It focuses on wheat imports – which probably accounted for almost half of food imports in 2020, and almost a quarter of all imports

With Swift banned it will be hard for African and Middle East countries to trade with Russia + Ukraine banning exports.
If wheat exporting nations start imposing limits then it’s possible that something similar to an Arab Spring 2.0 could erupt.

Yemen is going to get hit the hardest. I doubt they have rubles to trade. Then you got the Saudi blockade, Ukraine banning wheat exports, Russia removal from Swift, exploding fuel and food price… Yemen humanitarian crisis is about to get a lot more worst.

U.S. clears way for truly driverless vehicles without steering wheels.

  • Federal vehicle safety regulators have cleared the way for the production and deployment of truly driverless vehicles that do not include manual controls such as a steering wheel or pedals.
  • The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Thursday issued final rules eliminating the need for highly automated and self-driving vehicles to need such controls.
  • The new rule emphasizes such cars “must continue to provide the same high levels of occupant protection as current passenger vehicles.”

Maybe i am old fashioned but i don't feel comfortable in a vehicle that i couldn't take control at any moment, even in highly automated aircraft like an Airbus a pilot can disengage the autopilot at any moment an take control.
Time to take public transit again. Don't want to risk my life if these show up on the road with the... uh... maturity of Tesla self driving.
