Are they all from the "Liberal Arts" department? Because that would explain the number. They can write a petition, but 200 ain't that many. If the number was in the 1000's and the people come from different academic disciplines then I'll be concerned because it seems that there are a fair amount of Chinese old geezers who have swallowed the American liberal poison pill. Which in my estimation, the overwhelming majority of these egg heads are residing in the land of the free and full of Covid-19, a.k.a. America.

Even more, the reason to decline their degrees. These people are traitors through and through. All actions have consequences and these people should be made the lesson for others to learn. If you gonna betray your country, then don't expect to be able to keep leaching off it.

I don't think the Americans have really thought this one through.

What happens now when Iran decides to dial up the enrichment percentage of their uranium centrifuges? Are America going to go around the world forcing countries to stop buying Iranian oil? Or when Saudi Arabia decides to chop up another dissident journalist?

I don't see why this is a bad thing. Every country use their domestic opposition voice as bargaining chips in international negotiations. 'We can't make that kind of concession because our people will not allow it. Look, some people are even advocating that!' or "we are the dove. if you don't make a deal with us. I am afraid the hawks will take power. you rather deal with them?" from the book 'On China,' both parties used the tactic in their negotiations in the 70s.

The key is to control the mainstream but leave doors not fully shut for other voices.
