Global opinion seems to be against Russia. UNGA with a big majority asks Russia to withdraw and cease hostilities. 141-5-35. Also didnt expect Serbia to vote Yes. Interesting.
In the end of the day, Ukraine is a sovereign nation. It is difficult to justify an invasion of a sovereign country. However, UN General Assembly is just a toothless and irrelevant mechanism. Israel, Russia, and the US have all ignored UNGA countless times without any repercussion.
What's important I think is how many countries would be persuaded to join the sanctions. I seriously doubt the third world has any interest in this standoff especially after Brazil, Mexico, Thailand, and India all have refused to condemn Russia.

Against+Abstention actually represents 53.3% world population from my quick math.
Not only that, the countries that sanctioned Russia are your usual lot. Plus one random country in South America that enjoys sucking Western d*ck
I wish China would say, anyone that sanctions Russia will get sanctioned by China. Then many countries will get blue balls and withdraw. But it's not gonna happen 
Population is a poor metric because then India's opinion becomes more valuable than the entire continent of Africa and will be more valuable than Chinas by 2030.
