  • European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen tells CNBC that energy sanctions against Russia are still an option if Russia invades Ukraine.

Assuming it does happen. It looks like Biden prediction of a dark winter was pretty close. Except it wasn’t about Covid nor will it be in Winter.

Now I do feel bad for the collateral damage it will have for the less well off average joe. Especially, the seniors once the next winter season sets in.

So what they are saying is that the EU will be crippled for some time with high energy prices while China will receive the sparse Russian capacity for cheaper. Sounds good to me - additional damage to the enemy and profit for China.

No Russia gas -> uncompetitive German Industry -> helps Chinese Industry to grab market share (another comrade US president helping China...)

Current and former U.S. and European officials say they are alarmed over what is effectively a nonaggression pact between China and Russia that could amount to a realignment of the world order.

Portending a new type of Cold War, Biden administration officials say the United States will work to create and bolster its own coalitions of democratic nations — including new Europe and Asia-Pacific strategic groups — and help countries develop advanced military capabilities.
AUKUS-style military help, but where is the economy?...

Their long courtship reached a peak with the 5,000-word joint statement that said their partnership had “no limits,” which some Biden administration officials see as a turning point in China-Russia relations and a brazen challenge to American and European power.

“They seek a new era, as they say, to replace the existing international order,” Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, said in Munich on Saturday. “They prefer the rule of the strongest to the rule of law, intimidation instead of self-determination, coercion instead of cooperation.”
