Congress Proposes $500 Million for Negative News Coverage of China

The effort to counter China’s ‘malign influence’ would fund negative coverage of China’s Belt and Road Initiative—while also beefing up the U.S.’s international lending.

Meant to “combat Chinese disinformation,” the bill would direct funding to the U.S. Agency for Global Media, a U.S.-run foreign media service, as well as local outlets and programs to train foreign journalists.

For example, the Senate bill aims to crowd out Chinese investment in developing countries, and also encourages criticism of China’s projects in those markets.

The Senate bill aims to produce more anti-China media for regions where it says the Chinese Communist Party and other rivals are promoting “manipulated media markets.” It notes that the sponsored news will be “independent.”

One subtitle of USICA creates a “Countering Chinese Influence Fund” totaling $1.5 billion over a five-year period, with more than a third of funds aimed at media outlets.

The push to counter China, the subtitle explains, should “raise awareness of and increase transparency regarding the negative impact of activities related to the Belt and Road Initiative.” It should also urge “support for market-based alternatives in key economic sectors, such as digital economy, energy, and infrastructure.”

For US, $500 million is a cheap and effective way to counter China. China has almost no voice when it comes to PR or international media influence.

What does it say about the quality of intelligence of the Anglo Elite when they think pogroms against ethnic Asian civilians in their own territories will somehow stop China from pwning their asses?

It's an attempt to show that China was entering the trade negotiations and other thorny issues with America from a sincere place. Perhaps, trying to placate the more pro-American groupies within the CPC the harsg reality that regardless of effort U.S. is determined to stymied, stop, and ultimately destroy the Chinese dream. And Trump doing what he did has given Xi the added political salvo needed to pursue the policies of which he's been trying to push ahead.
Also I think the late 2019 virus thing signified sufficiently the other side's intention to Beijing that their amicable approach was futile, and relationship should be conducted in straight transactional means onwards. Then we all are witnessing the many instances of such new paradigm.

Operated by Elon Musk's SpaceX, Starlink is a satellite constellation authorised for 4,408 satellites, all in orbits around 550km (340 miles), to provide internet from space. So far it has more than 2,000 satellites in orbit, according to planet4589.org, a website that tracks satellites in orbit and other space-related activity.

Nasa has expressed concern about SpaceX's proposed second-generation Starlink constellation of 30,000 satellites, saying it could lead to a "significant increase" in potential collisions in low Earth orbit and interfere with science activities in space.

There are currently some 25,000 objects tracked on-orbit and about 6,100 of those have a perigee - point closest to Earth - below 600km. SpaceX's plan for the larger, second-generation constellation would boost traffic congestion across the Earth's orbit, with the number of tracked objects in low Earth orbit increasing more than five times, Nasa said.

"An increase of this magnitude into these confined altitude bands inherently brings additional risk of debris-generating collision events based on the number of objects alone," the letter stated. "Nasa anticipates current and planned science missions, as well as human space flight operations, will see an increase in conjunctions."

Nasa also questioned SpaceX claims there was no risk of collision with large objects because of Starlink satellites' manoeuvrability.
Didn't know that Starlink will be a constellation of 4,408 satellites and the proposed 2nd-generation Starlink is a constellation of 30,000 satellites.
