I remember reading reports from Russia of Turkey flying militants into Chechnya and supplying them with weapons via helicopter drops back in the Chechen Wars. You had Turkish/US sponsored "East Turkestan" party militants in Chechnya. The Russians are in Syria because they know these dregs, which include the Chechen ISIS branch, would move closer to their border, probably into Chechnya again if they left them alone. Turkey already sent them as mercenaries via Azerbaijan to claw back Nagorno-Karabakh. They have also used them as muscle in the Libyan conflict. Previously they directly employed them against the Kurds in Northeast Syria. So any claims Turkey has no relations with these people, eh, who would believe them.

Turkey is playing a dangerous game on the Russian and Chinese backyards. So far both of these countries have cut Turkey a lot of slack because they see Turkey as an important player in the Eurasian space but they won't accept just anything to happen. Trying to destabilize Kazakhstan was a really low blow which I think pushed their relations almost to breaking point. Kazakhstan is a main hub in the Chinese OBOR project. The railroad route from China to Europe goes through it. The Central Asia–China gas pipeline which is used to power Southern China (Shanghai) with natural gas is fed though it.

You don't need to be math genius to understand who was behind Kazakh Protest and the plan was to trap CSTO there but it didn't materialize since the protest ended within 2 days but the initial plan was for it to ignite but it just didn't materialize. It was a diverting tactics and occured on the same night as the US-NATO-Russia talks began.. The plan behind it was to force Russia to concede ground in the negotiations bearing that they get completely trapped in Vietnam like scenario but all that didn't pann out like that because the protest itself just lost momentum in less then 48 hours..

If a protracted conflict had occured instead then Turkey would have been the greatest loser and lose alot in Kazakhstan trade, projects etc etc co-production venture programs and even factories...

I think majority of them won't flip except maybe Hungary but they are sort of irrelevant

@Arnies Historical baggage, why the Baltic nation with a large minority of Russian feel besiege. Bro EU is trying to subjugate Serbia cause its project in the former Yugo republic is faltering, Bosnia is on the verge of a renew ethnic war and the rest of Eastern Europe had stagnate growth.

Starting a war during the middle of a Beijing based Olympics is bit of a Putin speciality. But don't worry he will sort it out before the Olympics is over.
