The atlantic denies that the US is heading for civil war.
Hope so...it'll be terrible for the people in America to have their political differences come to that violent conclusion. We need a relatively strong America to keep China on it's toes and to never relent on innovation and improving the lives of Chinese people in China.

My hope and wish is for the U.S. to really work on it's game and not just simply rely on creating and conjuring up enemies in order to skirt itself from actually improving the lives of ordinary Americans of all color, races, and whatever pronouns some of them prefer.

For me the biggest thing he said was how the electric vehicle supply chain has spawned 20,000 Chinese companies (?) all over the supply chain.

EVs will feed tire manufacturers, semiconductor companies, self-driving companies, IoT companies, steel companies, lithium etc etc

News from last week:
1. BYD to build electric vehicles under the Toyota brand. But it's really a Chinese car.
2. Mitsubishi Airtrek with 500km range. But really it's a 50-50 Joint Venture with GAC of Guangzhou. AND produced in China.

I would not buy any of them. Why not just buy a Chinese brand since it is designed, developed and made in China.

If any foreign brand has a critical expertise that makes their car better at a acceptable price, I am willing to buy. But not for a name tag. Anyway, neither Toyota nor Mitsubishi are attractive to me in anyway.

It’s still important since Toyota and Mitsubishi have name recognition outside of China. Your average person is more likely to buy a Toyota electric than a BYD electric despite the fact that everything under the hood is actually BYD.

This. Mitsubishi has a cult following. Everyone knows Toyota. This is what you call strategic collaboration.

BYD is just biding time.

Well said. Also superpowers need check and balance, China included. We definitely don't want the China tomorrow to become the US today.

As polarizing as Americans are, the vast majority don't want to die or suffer. There may be large protest disobedience and small outburst of violence. Law enforcement regardless of political bias will crack down when the situation gets alarming, i would argue that they cracked down alot earlier than HKPF. A good number of color revolution that resorted into real violence has had outsiders flaming the situation...

One should not rely on ardent Russophobes and the US state department for news concerning the situation Eastern Europe. They will always paint the other side, in this case Russia, as the aggressor. Better questions would be 1) What will Russia do if Ukraine tries to pull a Georgia 2008? 2) What will China do in case of further US aggression in Europe ?
Hopefully, if Putin decided do something, he gives some face to China and do it after the Beijing Olympics.

On the other hand, I am quite sure that the West will try to provoke Putin during the Beijing Olympics in order to sabotage the competition
