Rumour currently circulating on Chinese social media: all US films waiting approval are deferred until further notice in response to the Olympic diplomatic boycott. Spiderman was supposed to be approved today at 10AM and the notice never came.
US films already had problems getting approved this year. Good riddance to them. Holywood is a garbage film factory

Can we ban all this Disney and Marvel slop forever and ever. It's pollution on the eyeballs
Yes but more sci-fi please

Maybe he's writing pro China stuff to get a visa to do his sexpat stuff
might as well make monkeys dance for their banana. better than letting them get the banana for free. it conditions their brain to behave according to your interests.
i guess it comes down to the individual. For me he crossed my red line and isn’t worth it to idolise him. In big scheme of things he isn’t that important enough, given his past doings are known. I guess I could tolerate him. No need to put him on a pedestal though.
nobody idolizes him. The goal is to get the monkey to dance for the banana often enough that they subconsciously begin to dance even when there's no banana.

Well, China can create a sporting body with countries that are not aligned with US. Finding the initiative is upto China.
China needs to first establish successful spectator sports domestically then go for alternate sporting bodies. It should start with football and basketball where there already have been massive investments. Invest in grassroots programs, create a culture rather than splurging big on foreign players (which happened in CSL, thank goodness it stopped). It will take a decade or so but will produce results.

Once domestically these sports succeed then it will become financially sustainable and powerful . After that China can easily create new sporting bodies or even dominate the current ones.

Like if i take example of Cricket. Its primarily played by 8 nations. But before India was economically relevant , the cricket body ICC (International Cricket Council) was dominated by Australia & England. India soon became a big market and its domestic league (IPL) succeeded. India became a financial powerhouse in the sport and now BCCI (Indian Cricket Body ) dominates ICC . Aus England monopoly got finished.

Even in US there's MLS. Now 2 decades ago it was considered a joke. With crap attendance and shit quality of play and poor viewership. 20 years later the attendance has grown manyfold, sponsors have arrived and some clubs (LA, AU) are worth more than some European powerhouses like AC Milan, Inter, Atelitico etc. MLS is now on course to surpass Baseball as Americas 3rd biggest sport. Its also projected to surpass German and Italian football leagues in terms of revenue and attendance by 2030.
This growth also helped America become powerful in FIFA and now you have them hosting the World Cup in 2026.

Make the sport strong domestically & then dominate the sporting bodies or create a new one.

this is exactly how China started dominating e-sports away from South Korea. Instead of importing Korean pros, Chinese players promoted the domestic leagues and eventually became a gaming colossus that beat South Korea in league of legends years in a row and dominated DOTA TI. I have no doubt that applied to physical sports, it will be similar.

the top e-sports players are over 18 so it doesn't affect them. the #1 video gaming demographic in China is college aged, not high school aged due to gaokao. at least back in the heyday of League of Legends around 2014-2017 the top players were in their 20's. age has been trending down for a while though.

People can't be serious when referring to video games as sport. If one really believes they are, then chess, poker, bridge are sports as well.

Took me a while to connect the dots but if china is no longer exporting urea, could this be preparation for war?

urea and ammonia are needed for the production of munitions as well as for fertiliser, could this be china denying the west components of weapons whilst hoarding war materiel for what could be a long drawn out war?

Maybe, however I have heard a lot of compliants about this from S.Korea and it was about cars. This is a big issue which S.Korea brought it on when their Nat sec advisor spoke with Wang Yi
