This seems like a classical case of schizophrenia. You know, the split personalities. They are like the good cop and bad cop at the same time. Or they are Batman and Robin at the same time (ie the dominant and submissive, being both at the same time.)

The Chinese, being rather straight, I mean, like, we are really straight, the Chinese are deeply confused by all of this.

Best thing to say is, "I don't understand English."

Then hope they get better with their thoughts and feelings, and maybe something productive can happen.

Indeed I see schizophrenia too. Here I quote the article.
Wim Geerts, the Netherlands’ ambassador to China, has also appealed for direct communication between Xi and EU leaders.

“The past few summits took place at the level of President Xi, and I understand that it seems now that China wants to do it at the level of Premier Li Keqiang. Which makes us wonder why. Why downgrade the level of such summits and what signal does it send?” Geerts said in an online forum held by Chinese think tank Taihe last month.
“If China and the [EU] are to successfully engage in practical cooperation we need to engage in good faith dialogues. I believe when things get complicated we have to engage more with each other, not less,” he said.

The China-EU summit has been a platform co-hosted by the European Council president, the European Commission president and Chinese Premier Li, but Xi has met his European counterparts on the sidelines of the summit in the past.

The EU (represented by Wim Geerts) wonders why "not Xi" or demanding "meeting Xi", but the summit was ALWAYS attended by Premier Li Keqing. Xi's past meeting with EU consul head was always a courtesy act, not a official/formal act. It was done on good environment, and it won't be done if the environment deteriorated like today.

The EU is essentially asking for another candy right after biting the hand that gave a candy. EU is not unique. Japan has been doing this for decades, PM asking for meeting/improvement right after Diayu island flashout, visiting the "yasukuni pit" etc. Australia did it recently by saying "no obstacles from our side to improve relationship".

All these people expecting a meeting with Xi are probably thinking "if Xi talk to Biden and Trump, why not me." They failed to realize that they are not the same level players as Biden. It is NOT about what other do, can do and can receive, it is about how much weight one has. Two enemies can and will talk face to face to negotiate a cease-fire, but henchman has no place at the table.

Some may argue that EU president is equally important, that is an over-estimate of EU institution's importance. China apparently sees individual sovereign state within EU more important. China IMO is also deliberately dealing with favorable individual states against hostile factions within EU. It is EU trying to insert itself to the game which China has no interest UNLESS the EU consul is willing to force the arm of EU parliament on CAI, Xinjiang and HR issues.

This is actually a slow moving strategy of China to normalise these kind of air operations in Taiwan.

They gradually fly more and more aircraft, closer and closer to Taiwan. So when the West (eventually) does something, then China will flyover Taiwan without appearing as making an unreasonable move.

Strange how they are all desperate to talk to Xi. First Biben, now the EU. It seems that the real collapse is not in China but somewhere else.

They are probably trying to find ways to get CAI back on track

They see the unfolding of the Australia drama in which US is taking market share away from AU in China agriculture and energy markets. It would likely happen to EU if EU followed US in some competing business sectors in their China markets. When US and China reaches some sort of truce or detente, it would definitely benefit US business first.

Another China collapse story. This time from a "respected" magazine

At this point I am convinced that China's rise is actually fueled by these "China collapse" articles:D

This is how you shut them up: get them to place several puts on China's economy, get them to sink their life savings on it; if they aint got the cojones to put their money where their mouth is, they're just talking shit- a common trait amongst indo-europeans.

Kyle Bass did that. 200:1 leverage in fact.

He's going bankrupt in 3 months if HKD doesn't collapse.
