But Beijing's message is clear. If Chinese firms fall foul of the Western legal system there will be consequences. That means governments must now balance the distasteful possibility of offering impunity to China's vast business interests against the risk of exposing their own nationals to reprisals in China.

And the West's message is clear where if you have a company that bests theirs, they'll trump up some charges to have the executives of that company arrested in order to knock out the competition.

Probably. Its good that they will be the minor party in the Gov coalition. The big party and the business interests might be able to limit Germany changed stance at only rhetoric
