Meng's guilty plea is the only logical way this saga will end. The US is not going to release her without some kind of confession - it's a face saving move for the US. Meng gets to go home, the two Michaels from Canada gets to go home.

China and Canada can move on from this.

The US will continue to target Huawei regardless.

So this may be the best outcome for all parties.

Until the verdict comes out, we don't know if she is pleading guilty. The article implies that the charges will be drop if she admits wrongdoing. If she was guilty and the the us did not want to punish her, they would deal with plea guilty and give a suspended sentence.

It don't matter what the US will do to Huawei because China already knew that after the arrest of Meng. China has already move onto getting the Made in China 2025 a closer reality.

It is more of a face saving for both the US and to a degree Canada because the US were the one that made the trump charges out of political and trade reasons. That's why the "two Michaels" were not part of this agreement because it has NOTHING to do with Meng's case as a tit for tat by China. Only the Western MSM wanted to attached the "two Michaels" onto their narrative.

Meng pleaded not guilty to U.S. wire-fraud charges in a New York court proceeding today.

U.S. prosecutors say the plea is part of a deferred prosecution agreement reached with the U.S. Department of Justice, which was expected to allow Meng to be promptly returned to China.

Sounds like the court case against her has started in the US. She pleads NOT guilty. The judge tells her if she does not do A,B,C within the next year, they will no longer proceed with the charges and the case will get dropped.

Sounds like the US can save face by saying as long as she does not continue to do deals related to US sanction countries, they will not continue the prosecution.

Seems like she has to admit to some facts and statements though.

Wow. So thats official?

Tremendous public win for China. Total surrender by the US.

Thats a straight up loss for the US. Biden must be hurting pretty badly that he surrendered like this. IMO the "deferred prosecution" is not even giving the US some face

The way things are going, Biden will keep fulfilling China's demands as shown in the 2 lists of "grievances and wrong-doings" presented to the US some months ago.

Big win!

Why would Beijing let the Michaels go home? That's admitting they were held solely for political reasons.

Biden is going to get an earful from conservative media for this I imagine.
That said, for a change I say good on him for doing the right thing.
