It's not NST, it's STMore sly China bashing by the New Straits Times. Complaining about "foreign" (actually mainland Chinese) brands and people taking over commercial spaces. There's even a short section about Chinese immigration into Singapore.
Foreign business chains coming in and displacing local businesses is a not a new problem. And that is not exclusively a China problem. Every foreign business chain does that. If the Singaporean government wants to intervene, that's their decision to make. What I disagree is the NST is playing a hit piece like this to raise anti-China sentiment and possibly influence the government's decision.
And it's really expected considering it's full of white worshippers and bananas. The same people writing this article are the same ones gushing over the latest Japanese ramen stall. They don't actually care about "local" at all.
