China Road Trip Exposes List of Uninvestable Assets in the West

China leads in seemingly every category of clean tech. That left a group of venture capitalists wondering if there was any way for Western startups to break through. The best way to find out? Take a trip to the heart of the world’s green tech economy.

A climate tech pilgrimage

Eight venture capitalists flew to China for what was a cross between an investor roadshow and a religious pilgrimage. It may sound like the start of a joke, but it’s exactly what happened in July.

Hailing from London, Berlin, Copenhagen and Barcelona, the traveling party, all of whom make early-stage investments in clean energy startups and collectively oversee $6 billion in assets, met founders and toured production facilities at around 10 companies from Shenzhen to Shanghai. They saw cutting-edge battery cells, newfangled hydrogen-powered turbines and breakthrough solar technology, plus the state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities capable of cranking out huge volumes of those products.

The idea was to get an on-the-ground feel for just how big China’s lead is in the energy transition, and how it has built such a near-unassailable position in so many green industries. The VCs also wanted to see, as I report in my

for Bloomberg Green, if there were any remaining pockets of the clean energy transition where European and US companies still stood a chance of being competitive.

The answer? Yes, but only if Western companies include working with Chinese ones as part of their plans to scale.

China is the world’s number two economy, but it’s a leader in virtually every aspect of the

, including investment, installation and manufacturing. It’s the top producer and deployer of batteries. Ditto for electric vehicles. The country also dominates the supply chain for the critical minerals that underpin many essential green technologies, refining 91% of the world’s supply, according to BloombergNEF.

Awww, is the little princess throwing a tantrum for not getting the attention she craves? LOL

They didn't mean the kind that results in Raptors/F-35 getting locked onto and chased out/splashed on landing.

The Anglos are angry that Chinese refuse to fight and kill fellow Chinese on both sides of the strait. Perhaps chinese simply have better self control than Slavs and Anglos? And particularly against Israelis who can’t seem to stop raping?
Intelligece and self-control does go hand in hand with being civilized and high-IQ for individuals and countries.

I find it hilarious even as China's repeatedly crushing their balls Americans still think China wants to negotiate, lol
If I remember correctly it took Americans 2 month just to figure out neodymium magnets infact contains dysprosium and isn't made only of neodymium
Which further empathizes how dumb these US idiots are. I mean all they know is blowing shit up and killing as a way of winning fights while China slowly smoothers the moron to death as slowly and sweetly as possible with little resistance due to the US being to confused on how to react because it doesn’t fit how they normally destroy someone. In this way, in the long turn, one way helps the winner to maximize the benefits while the other turns you into a pariah to everyone. Then again with the balls squeezing example, well you never know, they might’ve enjoyed it

All these weebs and Anglo imperialists who thought starting a war with China would cement Anglo American hegemony for the 21st century should really sue Tom Clancy and Gordon Chang for writing fanfic and attempting to pass it off as Serious Business. Like no kidding, Tom Clancy never served yet behaves like he’s a veteran.

Re chinas new move on rare earths, I take it that any entity or country that wants to be smart and shunt rare earths to the Anglo American war machine, will have its licence canceled and presumably never be able to source rare earths from China again? You have to really make it stick, chances are the Americans are offering hefty premiums for rare earths that even unscrupulous Chinese looking to make a quick buck or two might be tempted.

Look at the comments. This must be how Americans felt when Soviet citizens started to not believe Soviet propaganda about America in the 80s.

I guess that bridge in China was more of a Sputnik moment for American populace than Deepseek was.
Peter Zeihan is truly a man of peace. He declares that China will be gone in 10 years. China is a basket case. His message is that America must figure out a way to move on without China. So, there shall be no need to threaten China with war. China is going away anyways. Don't waste your precious money and lives on China.

Zeihan's theory must reach to Trump and his war cabinet. It'll save Murica so much blood and treasure to pull out of the Asia Pacific. Don't worry. China will collapse on its own. Better to spend all that blood and treasure fighting the terrorists and other bad guys at home. China would definitely welcome this.

China is more than happy to collapse alone without America threatening war on it. China is happy to collapse into an economy that is bigger than the US. China is happy to collapse into peaceful reunification with Taiwan. China is very happy to collapse into a world leader in technology and innovation. The moon awaits spacemen from a collapsing China. In short, China should be quite happy to be part of the Peter Zeihan collapse theory.

Bigger news is announcement of secondary export control: foreign companies who wish to export to countries other than China any products containing Chinese materials or technology must obtain Chinese permission. i.e. A German company can't export electric motors containing Chinese magnets to the United States without a permit or they will lose magnet import permit.

All I can say is, lmao.
The only possible demand from China for a big move like this is complete removal of all export control on Chip equipment including EUV. Nothing else compares. This is the equivalent of the US chip export controls in size and sweeping nature.
