Looks like comrade Trump is unsatisfied the tariff exemption will give American manufacturers too much ability to build things, they're going to fine tune and optimizing it to precision target intermediate goods so only final assembled products can be imported tariff free. lol

I get the feeling the US is looking to impose a modern day Mercantile system. Coerce terms to remove tariffs on all US goods in exchange for lowering US tariffs but maintain high tariffs on valuable refined goods.

Include terms of something along the lines of a Continental System or Trade Restrictions with China (Like Lutnick plan to impose a semi blockade via trade agreements.) Limit world trade with China, have them sell resources to the US, and force them to purchase only US refined goods.

From all the flip-flopping and caving along with the likely economic conditions in a month or 2, these ‘temporary’ exemption might turn into a permanent one. If goods stocks dwindles without adequate alternatives and massive price increases we might see even more exemptions quietly added.

I wonder how they plan on "forcing" anything.

All American plans derive from the axiom that they're the most important market who alone posses the building block of the universe: USD. Unless and until they realize this axiom is wrong, it's not logically possible for Americans to come up with any real strategy.

The only way the US public will ever realize that they aren’t the center of the universe is when they either implode or lose a war against China. They will never accept that their power is shrinking in any other scenario besides those two.

In a way, i think the US has declare war on China by publicly declaring that their intention is to isolate China from the rest of the world. I am a bit bias to think that the PRC has not purposely try to impede the US and mostly played defensive, maybe tactics and strategies will change from this point forward.
